I was absolutely dreading the start of this week.

Much planning has gone in andd finally the builders arrived for some renovation.

This was re-plumbing, re-plastering, re-wiring, new bathroom and new kitchen.

It's been an awfull week in that we have been without power, water and heat for most of the time.

I fully expected to start a thread called "Builders from hell" going by the reputation of British builders.

I am shocked and surprised to find that all the different departments have been,

punctual,

polite

Curteous,

respectfull of our property,

clean, tiding away before leaving,

not demanding huge amounts of tea and coffee,

carefull with our pets,

fun to have around.

Damn, i was so looking forward to a good moan. :-5:-5:-5

Isn't it great cuz they are there to sorta break up your boring day. All in good gun though. Just had our basement redone and we had two of the funniest carpenters. I miss them sometimes.

I wish we had a basement -- I'd put Mr Oscar in there at times.

The plumber had a youn son who i think was an aprentice but great to see a young kid learning a new trade.

The black electricians are just great fun, lots of laughter. I'd normally hate sitting around the house with time off but they break it up. Great to see guys who really enjoy their work and have some people skills.:-6

Married to a plumber myself and he comes home from work and tells us all sorts of funny things that happen in people's homes:wah:, but all in all, I love it. My younger son is following in Dad's footsteps already and does help out with him on the weekends. Son who is 13 unclogged our bathroom sink and it's still working. Daughter was able to unclog a toilet at the beach via phone.

I'm hopeless -- can't even unclog my hairbrush.

It's great your son is following in Dad's footsteps. Even in the credit crunch, people will always have emergency plumbing work needing done. it's a trade no-one can do without.

Our plumbers had to take the tiolet out. I knew it was happening and the time it was going to happen so i kept going to the bathroom so i wouldn't get caught short.

I hated the idea of going to a neighbour.

I did get caught short twice and had to go round the back yard for a wee.

I was so worried one of the plumbers would look out the window and see me crouching there.

The dogs were a bit bemused as to what i was doing but Mr Oscar thought it was so funny -- Yeah, he would :-5

Good advice :wah:

the entire house is covered in red brick dust. There is just no point in doing housework until it's all finished.

That's my excuse and i'm sticking to it :wah:
