I note that Venezuela is still managing to implement a non-aligned foreign policy despite continual interference in its internal affairs by the local hyperpower.

After holding talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, the Venezuelan president told journalists in Beijing that China was a super-giant, which needed more energy, and that Venezuela was committed to help provide it. "While the world enters an energy crisis, we are investing," said Mr Chavez.

Apart from oil exports to China, other plans include joint projects to build three oil refineries in the country capable of processing Venezuela's heavy crude oil.

Not really any different from what the US does in the former eastern bloc. Although I can't see china wanting to get involved if Venezuela decides to invade somebody.

I'm quite certain that China's involvement will help prevent Venezuela from being destabilized by another country interfering in its internal affairs. China probably keeps troops in Venezuela for that very purpose, at the invitation of the elected government.

Doubt that. They don't need to and have no reason to be provocative. Now if they put missile defence systems in:thinking:
