A three day litany of accusations of sexual abuse of children has revealed the full horror of a vast paedophile trial in Angers, in Wastern France.
Five court officials, working in relays, read out 430 closely packed pages of allegations against the 66 people on trial for raping, sexually assaulting, prostituting, or failing to help 45 children aged between six months and 12 years.
Yesterday afternoon the defendants underwent questions on their personal histories and backgrounds.
The first week of the trial has also been marked by a death threat screamed by one defendant at another and the collapse of three others from illness and emotional exhaustion.
The jury heard that young children had been abused by their parents over a period of three years and hired to other adults for small sums of money, food and cigarettes.
