Friday I had a Ultra sound on my thyroid. Well I will tell you i am scard.:-3 I have 6 lesions on it. Will call this morning to see if i will have a biopsy. Cancer runs BIG TIME in my family. Has anyone had lesions? What were you told?

I had a lump in my Thyroid a few years ago. The biopsy showed it was benign. It grew fairly rapidly so I had it removed with half of my thyroid. I don't have to take medication as the remaining half has taken over well.

I was told that malignant cancer of the thyroid is pretty rare.



My brother and sister have both had very serious cancer and survived so I was pretty scared.....like you.



I'm sure everything will be OK for you..good luck

just a update . have seen a Dr. it is not cancer. The DR has put me on hormones. He said it is hit and miss. Trying to find right dose. Plus it is VERY slow working. So it is a wait and see thing.

Relax---------10 years ago I had my thyroid removed due to multiple toxic nodules that could not be treated any other way. They were non cancerous, but even if they had been, thyroid cancer is generally treatable and non fatal. The operation is no worse than a tonsilectomy. I take a daily pill that replaces the thyroid hormone.

All the loved ones around me i watched them die a very cruel, slow, painful death. I wish i was braver.

I have had an underactive one for years, been on medication, levothryoxine, but recent blood tests show its over-active, been off meds now 6 months and it still shows over-active.



really really frightened here, he even said it might be cancer, he has no idea, but he said why should he lie to me?

help! understand your fear. but when i questioned my DR about cancer. He told me it is not likely. If it is. He also said it was very treatable. VERY RARELY spreads. Please keep me posted. i understand how you feel:(

Like my doctor said, I have to tell you the truth, he said whenever you see a specialist.......it could be, and I have been told that before for other things...........its something they always will check for.



also read up on it, and is treatable if caught soon, but trying to remember when I had my last blood test........before the last 6 months of doing them.

ahhhh thanks 911! The meds apparently had nothing to do with it, its only over-active on one part, the other part if under-active?

Yeah, loosing weight would be sooooooooo good!

Yeah, loosing weight would be sooooooooo good! mine is under-active, just came up about 2 months ago. always was normal until then. i will say with the meds my memory is improving (some). was really bad before

funny you should say that, just finished reading up on symptoms today, memory loss, fatigue, mood swings, crying, no longer enjoying life including family and friends, feelings of doubts about yourself etc................all can be symptoms.

I too have a under active thyroid - I've chosen a natural med called Armour

Any woman close to or is going thru Menopause - get your thyroid checked.

If your gaining weight or puffy/thick - get your thyroid checked.

and yes, thyroid cancer runs in my family.

You don't want this gland/organ removed if at all possible

it's very important.

Just a curious question here - all with thyroid trouble, did you have alot of sore throats/strep throat as a child.??

Had half of my thyroid removed a couple of years back as there was a 'lump' which grew very quickly. Not cancerous and haven't had to take meds luckily.....funnily enough I did get a lot of problems with my tonsils until my early 20s....never put the 2 together though.



Anway....good luck ladies....I'm sure everything will turn out OK.

I had alot of trouble with sore & strep throat as a child - always sick.

I had my tonsils removed @ 19 yrs old and wanted to die.

I wouldn't ever recommend any one to have their tonsils removed as a adult.

I have always felt for myself, there was a connection with the tonsil problem and my thyroid. perhaps due to the poisons/infections.

Most DR.'s won't/don't cross reference with menopause & thyroid. All women

should have their thyroid checked @ menopause.

Alot of women will have the thyroid swell before they find out/verify they're pregnant.

god no! not at my age, no pregy here!:wah:

it was always inactive......but a reading came up that one is now over-active, not the actually thyoid, the pituary gland in the brain, both connected.

Doc even said it may be cancer when I asked him.

plus I do not remember when my last blood test was before this started 6 months ago..........so if it is cancer, may not still be in early stages.

Well, your definetly on top of the change - and yes the earlier the better.

along with all the regular symptoms with thyroid what brought you to the DR? a regular check up? or a symptom change as weight loss - dizzy - sick - heart racing - etc.?

I hope it's not cancer - hopefully this will be something that can be controlled with meds.?

Hi Patty; I had just decided it was time to get it checked............I have always felt fatigued and run down, not sure even if the pills did any good over the years or it could have just been from stress...........



I have gear, it was put out of commision years ago.

well ladies we have stick together. i know people who do not suffer from this think we are just loseing it or making this all up. Why would anyone make this up? Who would want to feel useless, dragged out, and loss of memory?? this stinks!!:mad:

Well she was FURIOUSs at my doctor saying I have cancer! She said where on earth did he get that from?

She said with the thyroid it quite often goes up and down.......(the readings) mine now is a over-active, so she wants it checked out again in 5 weeks, as of February and going off levothryoxine, it has been coming down nicely............if there are any problems with the blood result then........she will look into it more.

awesome specialist, did complete history, tons of questions, swallowing test with water, heart rate, weight, blood pressure etc........she is really nice and knows what she is doing!

but.................because of a blood reading on my tests, she think now I may have diabetics....so in 5 weeks will get that blood work done.......hell, have to drink some **** and wait 2 hours and bood tests again.

have I mentioned I have no patience for waiting!:-5

Joan waiting game is not my strong suit either. but i sooooo glad it is not cancer. i have had that scare twice. once with my thyroid and then in the spine.

all depends on the next blood test, if its still weird, then she will look into things further.

I know also hun of the cancer scare, had breast cancer in 2001, lumpectomy, chemo and radiation.

i had my thyroid glands removed last june and it was the best thing that ever happened to me !!

dont want to worry any of you but my problems have been going on since the early 80's !!

i used to get migrains that lasted for days and sometimes had me bed ridden.in 1989 i had three PARA THYROID glands removed because i was producing too much calcium and i was poisoning myself :eek:.

this cured it for some time then about 10yrs ago, i started producing kidney stones.

ive spent the last ten years being scanned , xrayed, blood tested and ive peed in more sample bottles than any one can imagine.

i was so tired all the time i virtually gave up on life. i woke up every morning being violently sick.

the op made me lose my voice for two months but that was the only draw back and its taken about three months for me to recover properly.

now im looking for things to do instead of collasping into a chair or my bed. ive had a couple of weekends away, shopping, sight seeing and a party or two thrown in for good measure ( i couldnt tolerate alchohol either ) all that would have had me running for cover just a short while ago !!!

went for blood tests again last week, im now on a higher dose of thyroxin and will go back in 4wks to see how thats helped me.

its been a long drawn out process but my god it was worth it,

well, its been five weeks now and the specialist asked me to take the blood glucose test......they took my blood, I drank that orange liquid......20 minutes later, threw it up!:(

So much for waiting the 2 hours for the second blood test!:-5

So will see her and see what she says with just the one fasting blood test!

I don't even have a week stomach?

anyone else throw up drinking that?
