I'm watching the late news and it seems the Oreo cookie is not going so well in the Uk or Australia for that matter. And it's because it's not a "biscuit". And you can't dunk it in tea. Yah, yah it's for dunking in milk. Ok, what gives? They are good.:-4

Funny thing about this thread!! I went out this morning deliberately to buy a packet of dark chockie TimTams for one small person who will be spending his school holidays with me and who LOVES them.. I've eaten Oreos in America and have seen them for sale in Australia. They don't have any iconic value here - and sit amongst a myriad of other biscuits/cookies, costing more because they are imported. I don't eat any sweet biscuits/ cookies myself except shortbread at New Year.

Umm, I guess you would have to be careful if ya sent them to me as my winter is your summer:wah:

Oh Oreos are SO GOOD! and they are even better dunked in milk, but why wouldn't they be good the're chocolate and y'all know by now how i am by chocolate! :sneaky:

Let's dig a bit - a one-pound bag of oreos has 2136 calories and exceeds the daily recommended salt intake all on its own? The oreo is the food of choice in over 80% of face-to-face binge-offs? Mere lardy-cake takes three times as long to swallow? A practised competitor can get three one-pound bags of oreos down in under a minute?

We should take this to Nomad's gun control thread and ask for an extra category.

I'll be the first to admot the're not good for you, but i'm a chocolaholic and enjoy eating them to much to worry about it!

I bought these for the first time last week, they do a box with 4 individual snack size packs in which are great for packed lunches. My girls had school trips and were the envy of the coach as they got their oreo's out lol..

School put on a strawberry tea the other day and we were serenaded by the school choir as we munched shortbread topped with cream and strawberries...delicious...My Molly is in the choir so I was doubly in my element:-6

Trans-Saturated fat

On May 13, 2003, attorney Stephen Joseph filed a lawsuit charging Nabisco with using hydrogenated (or partially hydrogenated) oils (trans fats) to make the cookies. The suit was dropped as Nabisco considered replacing the hydrogenated oils with alternative oils. Joseph admitted he filed the lawsuit to call attention to the matter, and he considered his motion successful. As of January 2006, classic Oreo cookies are no longer manufactured with hydrogenated oils. Other varieties may not have eliminated hydrogenated oils completely.

The trans-fats had been added to the Oreo recipe to replace its original fat, lard. Earlier outcry regarding these types of saturated fats is what prompted the change to use more unsaturated fats in the first place.

Its a biscuit carol:rolleyes: like a custard cream, but round and the biscuit is really dark coloured and the middle isnt custard cream but like a white frosting?:D God Carol you watch a lot of telly they are on adverts all the time! have you not seen the one where the boy eats both of the biccies and dont give one to his dog:wah:

We have Oreo cookies here as well, but they are a bit dry and not really very nice. Its a yank thing. Ye obviously grew up with them as kids and are accustomed to the taste, we are not, and so we don't think they are actually very nice. Its the same with those Hershey bars, they are not that good really, and I thought they were going to be amazing because the Americans are always going on about them. The closest thing I can think of as a comparison are bourbon creams, which are like custard cremes, but with chocolate flavour. What you have got to get down with are chocolate hobnobs, and also chocolate Irish Kimberly biscuits. They rock.

What are nice though are proper home made american chocolate cookies, they are beautiful. Yum.

I don't care for Hershey bars either...

I have tried a relatively cheap package of chocolates that would equate to roughly about a 1/2 of the price higher than your typical Hershey's bar by weight and I have to tell you they were well worth it...Very good associated with the price...

They're called "Merci" chocolates...German chocolate...
