President Bush read a statement today outlining the need and importance of offshore and ANWR drilling, and establishing new refineries.
This is great news and he was right on every single point, yet there are still some extraordinary shenanigans surrounding how we handle our existing supplies, both imported and domestic.
For that perfect “Behind the Looking Glass” feeling, here’s a bit of news the president didn’t mention: With a rising unemployment rate and college students entering the market for the summer and beyond, it’s not enough to keep our borders open so we can remain Mexico’s employment agency. We are now making sure Mexican citizens have plenty of cheap gasoline so they can drive on up here to take the jobs American citizens would take if they could get them, or at least afford to drive to.
During this unprecedented increase in oil and gas prices, as school districts, the post office, farmers, truckers, and regular folks who commute for a living feel the sharp stick in the eye that is high gas prices, we, the United States, are allowing the sale of gasoline refined domestically.
That’s right–our supply situation is serious enough the Feds have halted deliveries to our strategic oil reserve to ease the supply/demand problem, yet we’re sending gasoline out of the country. The very same gas, is refined here, then shipped to Mexico — where subsidies put in place by the Mexican government allow Mexican citizens to purchase gas at half the price Americans pay.
It’s clear now liberals like the high price of gas, as articulated by their Chosen One –Barack Obama. Liberals have long argued that expensive energy is a good thing as it will slow down the destruction human productivity causes. In other words, liberals want 365 days of that so-called Stone Age inducing “Earth Hour.” — Sending people back to the Dark Ages, literally, is now confirmed as the ultimate goal of the left. Even now, as politicians previously opposed to drilling (like McCain) call for it, Democratic Party leaders in Congress ridiculously oppose even basic deep water exploration.
With all of this, Congress wonders why 3 out of 4 Americans disapprove of them. If politicians in Washington had any shame at all they would apologize for the absurd mess they’ve made over the years, resign en masse and promise never to darken our doorstep again. They should feel lucky… If this were Japan we’d be demanding seppuku.
