Missouri Car Dealer Offers Free Gun With Car Purchase

BUTLER, Mo. — Salesmen at one Missouri car dealership aren't just kicking in a free CD player or factory air: They're offering a free handgun with every purchase.

Through the end of the month, car buyers at Max Motors in Butler will have a choice — $250 toward either a gun purchase or gasoline.

General manager Walter Moore said that so far, most buyers have chosen the gun, adding that he suggests they opt for a semiautomatic model "because it holds more rounds."

(In the fine print, the ad on the Web site explains, "Check written toward purchase price" and also mentions, "Approved Background Check REQUIRED!!")

Moore said he suspects his "Free Handgun" ad will draw protests in some places. But not in Butler, about 65 miles south of Kansas City.

Moore said, "Down here, we all believe in God, guts and guns."

Oh, come on..!!!

There had to be other incentives - New Flat Screen TV ??

This sounds nuts to me - I wouldn't even buy a car from a Dealership that promoted GUNS..

Oh, I'm quite sure he will be able to take out any braying mob, he just needs to fire up a couple of M-60's, roof-mounted, with the armour piercing rounds, he can finish off the survivors with his 9mm pistol, if anyone complains he can just explain that he is expressing his cultural heritage.

:) Yeah, but you can criticise close friends in a friendly way that would be outight rudeness to a distant acquiantance.

Besides, if it happened over here you'd have a fullblown Women's Peace Camp outside the gates exercising their freedom to protest without fear of some maniac blowing them away with a free gift bazooka!

It's very difficult to find "Made in the US".. Do I look before a purchase, you bet.

I won't promote guns and I wouldn't purchase a vehicle from a Dealership that was promoting guns - that simple.

I guess we just find it hilarious that someone would think that giving away lethal weapons with a car is a cool marketing idea, and more importantly no one in authority minds him doing it or seems to see why this might not be the most entirely sensible idea of all time, you lot really are nuts you know.

I rebuild and sell car and truck engines. I'm thinking if this works for the dude to get publicity I might try it with my engines. Wait I just got another idea.

the american constitution provides the guarantee to bear arms ... or words to that effect ...

the car dealer is therefore within his rights to offer this incentive to his clients ...

i should imagine that if anyone in the usa needs a firearm they would not have to purchase an automobile to acquire one ...

What about if they gave you a free car with a gun? The way oil is going, its gonna be hard to shift those log-cabin sized SUVs I would imagine.

Since its legal to give anyone cash towards a legal purchase of any item of course no authority is going to say anything, its legal.

Well seeing as I am Irish, I think the equivalent would be to give 12 bottles of whiskey free with my next car, which again is probably not the way that whiskey should be promoted or sold. Handguns, like all firearms, are lethal weapons, however you want to euphemize their primary function, which is to end someone's life, and wrap it up whatever way you like, thats what they are designed for, not hunting, or clay pidgeon shooting, or tag, or providing an inflated sense of false personal power (thats just a side-effect on an immature mind). Whatever about allowing people to buy and own handguns, it is, to say the least, a little tasteless to offer free guns as part of a marketing promotion.

What next? A Smith and Wesson half price, with every 20 Big Macs? Or how about an Uzi free with a crate of Budweiser? Its nuts, end of story. What I can't wait to find out is at what point does the bit in the American constitution about the right to "bear arms" (which as far as I can see was written as a political safeguard against the general coertion of the common populace, and also a recognition that the newly formed citizens militia's of the 18th century were not prepared to disarm themselves, given the experiences of the War of Independence, not a blanket right for people to "tool up" to 21st century military levels) gonna be interpreted as every new born child must be supplied with an assault rifle?

Were not talking Knife's here were talking GUNS who's only purpose is to kill, mame, and destroy life be it animal or human they are used for nothing else. Yes we have the right to bear arms but the notion was written when muskets were the arms and it took 15 minutes to get the powder in and take a shot. Okay, if you are bringing time period into play, and you are, then the whole constitution and bill of rights should be scrapped. Can we keep the 10 commandments, I wonder?

So are you saying that a hand gun is designed to open jam jars? Ot tie a slip knot? What's warped about pointing out what the function of a handgun is? Its a weapon, for use on people. Would you dispute that? What other useful practical purpose other than shooting at someone, either to attack them, or in response to an attack, is a handgun any use for? I can't see why you would think otherwise, unless of course you treat it like some quasi-religious symbol of "freedom".

No the 10 Commandments are air tight in my view. The Constitution is subject to interpretation, review, and amendments always in my opinion. In my humble view just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you should, this stunt fall in that category for me.

First, there IS such a sport as handgun hunting. Done it myself, often. There ARE target matches FOR handguns. Olympic matches too yet.

I realize a knife is not a gun but the thinking behind saying a handgun is only for killing people is the same as saying a knife is only for stabbing people.
