In Johannesburg anti-immigrant rioters are beating, shooting, stabbing and burning alive immigrants from other African countries, many legally in South Africa, so much for setting an example in a country where many of its leaders fled to other African countries during apartheid. Hey, why don’t they just build a fence around South Africa?

In Kuwait 24 out of 50 seats in their parliament were won by Islamists, meaning that fundamentalists are gaining a wider foothold their. And of special interest out of a country of some 2.6 million only 360,000 people are eligible to vote. Ah, democracy in action in the Middle East. Say, Barack here is a real opportunity for change; on the other hand perhaps we should mind our own business for a change that is until those Islamists decide they want Americans out of their country. We here in Ireland (that green, beer-stained, teddy-bear shaped Island) are holding an international conference aiming at banning the development and use of cluster munitions. Its a good noble idea, except of course the countries that actually make and use cluster bombs (and yes that does include the US, tut tut, you may find yourselves on the terrorism list one of this days and have to "track yourselves down and bring yourselves to justice") are not in attendence and will pay no attention to a bunch of wet lefties banging on about "collateral damage" and boring things like that.

In Britain, the Labour party are about to get beaten into shape in a forthcoming by-election, the economy continues to go south, perhaps one day houses in london will actually be affordable by human beings?

In Germany, they government realize that the whole "Nuclear energy is evil" philosophy is not really that sustainable, and the Germans may have to embark on a new nuclear energy program, however its unlikely that they will face sanctions or bombing raids, despite anglo saxon fears of the old enemy the, erm Saxons, (without the anglos, who were these anglos anyway and where was anglomania?).

In france, people are generally knocking around, reading John Paul Sartre and making love to their neighours daughters.

In Italy, the rubbish problem continues to defy description, in an interview with a random Italian on the street in Naples he was heard to remark, "Rubbish? Whata Rubbish, you ain't seen no rubbish, capice?"

In Russia, the sun has come out after the long Russian winter, causing a slight decrease in Vodka consumption from 18 litres per person per day, to 17.5 litres, (you think Regan won the cold war? Nah it was Mr Smirnoff).

In Serbia, the Capital is preparing to host the 2008 Eurovision song contest, that annual celebration of all things tacky and European (we, the Irish are sending a singing Turkey, which should give you a sense of the Calibre of this year's entries).
