This was just a random thought I had and I wanted to ask you fellow women if you ever really, I mean really, think about what it means to vote. When you are in the voting booth making your choice, do you just go through the motions or do you ever stop to think about the women before you who were not permitted to vote because men thought they were too inept or were afraid to give women power? Do you think about the suffragettes and even the men who backed them and all they went through so that we could vote today?

Here's a list of dates as to when women "got the vote" or at least could stand for election. Just something to think about.

believe me i've thought about that quite a bit. All the suffragettes went though and others that went before us.

i have voted in every presidential election since i was old enough to register at 18 and it's a priviledge that i take very seriously.

What bothers me is people who don't seem to care about voting and take it for granted, after what all those women went through to get us that right!

I've been voting since I was 18 and it bother's me that when people complain about the government, the war in Iraq, and all the importent things happening in this country and then don't bother to vote at all.

I know people like that too! they complain and complain but they never offer to try and change anything by voting!

Not just women, but everyone should vote. The right to do so was the fight of the poorer members of society, the working classes, before it was the fight of women. Now everyone has that right, wealth & gender no longer prevent you.



The trouble now is that many people are disillusioned with politics. Many wonder 'what's the point?' Politicians are seen as an unreliable, untrustworthy breed looking out for their own interests.



People may feel their vote won't change anything. Apathy is now the problem of the disillusioned masses. This could be the main problem of the political system today.

I certainly think it is.

Depends, I've only gone to the polling booth when I've felt drawn by the issue or position, then I'll vote with conviction on at least one choice.

Then sometimes there are other ballots, elections being held at same time that I have no clue who or what to vote for so I generally vote liberally in terms of social concerns and if it's for judges and elected city officials I'm not sure about I vote for the name I like best.

I have always been thankful for the suffregettes and it was I who knew the first US state to allow women to vote (on Jeopardy watching w/ family who likes to answer these) whereas I rarely know the answers to those questions, or can't think fast enough, lol.
