Shock video of couple forcing 18-month-old baby to smoke marijuana

Last updated at 08:16am on 18th April 2008

Police have uncovered a shocking video showing a couple laughing as they make an 18-year-old baby smoke marijuana.

As these disturbing images show, the child can be seen squirming as a man tries - but fails - to put what appears to be a lit pipe in her mouth.

But later in the video, as a girl holds her, the man tries again and when the child refuses, he blows smoke in her face.

As the baby seemingly inhales the smoke, she starts to cough - to laughter from the couple.

An adult inhales from the pipe containing marijuana while the baby sits nearby - then, even more shockingly, holds the pipe out to the child, below

A female voice can be heard saying, "Good girl," while the man says: "Oh, you're good."

U.S. police believe the man is 18-year-old Melvin Blevings, thought to be an uncle of the child. The other person in the video is believed to be his 16-year-old girlfriend, Angel Dailey.

The video was made two years ago and was found in the memory of a camcorder sold to a pawn shop.

When staff at the store in Ohio saw the video, they immediately contacted police.

The couple have been charged with child endangerment.

"You can tell that she's inhaling some of it," said Police Chief Chris Forshey, of Pataskala, Ohio.

"You can tell that she doesn't want to, so it's pretty disgusting video."

Blevins had already been arrested under federal drugs charges.

That is shocking.

What sort of people are these to abuse a child in this way and think it funny.

Ones with no morals and big problems.

I hope CPS are involves and they child has been taken to a safe place.

I had a friend whose mother was an addict. She gave her kids pills and weed to "calm them down" while she got on with her latest boyfriend or party of choice. The kids were beaten, abused and left alone with no food for days. As a result they grew up with drug problems and twisted views of what was socially acceptable. This affected my friend so badly that he took his own life at 30. He left 4 kids and an ex wife (also my friend). It was tragic, but it seems to happen more than we realise.

Very sad . Its such a shame that things have to affect the kids ...adults can do what they want, just leave the kids out of it .:-5

Hi Kiwimum I hope your friends kids are ok now.:-6

The only "dope" in this thread is anyone who can make heads or tails of it.

Sorry, maybe i should of headed it differently . The story was copy and pasted i didn't write any of it myself.

I was tempted to put up a paragraph about gin and laudanum and to challenge this concept of "addict" that gets bandied about but I don't expect I'd make much headway in influencing opinion among those who've posted to the thread.

If there are people who'd get more than a mild headache in deliberately coming off heroin over the course of a couple of weeks I've never met them, and that's been the epitome of addiction for the last century and a half. The same goes for whatever they're smoking, if even that. Alcohol and (perhaps - not that I'm experienced with it) crack are the physiologically addictive recreational drugs and I note that alcohol sale and consumption among consenting adults is legal. I only bring up heroin because that's what "junkie" refers to where I come from.

I'd not want that family babysitting for me. I can't see that jailing them is going to help anyone at all.

well im pretty liberal minded about drugs. I think they should ALL be legalised, but i think forcing a baby to smoke cannabis, tobacco, drink alcohol, smoke crack - whatever -is completely shocking and they need the book thrown at them

And so would I, if that's what had happened, any of those things would endanger the health and threaten the life of a baby. The stupid messing around described from that video is in a different ballpark. It's a shifting goalpost, there was a time (and there are still parts of the world) where children smoking and drinking was a social norm and teething babies were placated with heroin and spirits. In safe moderate doses. I can remember people who used to do it in England.

that may be so, but thats a crap argument. They used to send tiny kids down T`mill also, but these days we have child slave labour laws.

i would also be totally against giving laudanum and heroin for teething too. In the olden days they didnt know any better

It was safe, it was very effective and it did nothing to damage the child either in the short or the long term. I think it's dreadful that laudanum - a liquid ingestible preparation of opium/heroin/morphine, call it what you will - was taken off the over-the-counter pharmacy shelves for political and not medical reasons. Why do you say "didn't know any better"? Why would you be against giving it? I used to buy the stuff to settle stomach upsets, for goodness sake. It was ideal for that too, I've found nothing as effective since it was withdrawn. Doctor Collis Browne's Mixture was one of the patent brand names it went under, mixed with chloroform and ether.

well i dont think opiates should be used willy nilly. Theyre sedative, theyre known to be addictive. Thats one thing for a consenting adult, its another thing to give that to a baby for no good medical reason, and teething is no reason to give anything more than a simple painkiller. I think thats worse than blowing cannabis into their face tbh

Yeh, clearly the errant title makes the rest completely meaningless and the child unharmed.

This kind of abuse potentially causes permanent brain damage, which effectively takes the life of the child. It should be prosecuted at the same level as attempted murder.

Abuse you might, if you wanted to in the child's interest, claim in court to see whether they'd wear it, but ABH requires evidence which simply doesn't exist in that report.
