yes its me again the man they cannot gag aa grumpy off on another crusade.

THE suns shocking pictures of a rat-infested RAF barracks shame our nation.

Why does the Ministry of Defence hold our troops in such low esteem that it forces them to live in squalor?

If animals or prisoners were treated like this, there would be uproar from the do gooders.

But Paras training at Brize Norton air base must manage the best they can — even if it means stepping through sewage to find their bunks in crumbling shacks.

These are the troops who are flying to Afghanistan to risk their lives in the service of their country.

What has it come to when squaddies can’t wait to get to the front line because their conditions in battle will be better than at home?

The scandal at Brize Norton is the consequence of a lack of funding from a government that has talked big about supporting troops but acted small.

In Des Browne we have an inept Defence Secretary who carries no clout because he only does the job part-time.

Browne will say the Treasury won’t let him have any money to improve conditions.

Yet cash is wasted on a monumental scale every day by the armchair generals in Whitehall.

Last November it was revealed that the MoD alone had blown £10m in entertainment expenses in the past two years — enough to repair Brize Norton several times over.

The Government MUST sort this out, and fast.

David Cameron calls the conditions at the base appalling

So let him confront Gordon Brown in the Commons and demand action.

The Sun SAYS it is proud to campaign to improve the treatment of our forces.

We will not rest while a single squaddie is treated worse than vermin.

AAG COMMENT

in one word this is diabolical prisoners live in better conditions than our squaddies if they had to live in the same conditions there would be uproar .

yet the fact that the M.O.D. allow our squaddies to live in crumbling rat infested barracks is totaly disgracefull.

the whitehall fat cats should be investing the cash in decent warm clean barracks for our brave boys who risk their lives for queen and country.

perhaps we could divert some of the cash spent on quango,s and bleats of my sentence is too long appeals from criminal scum to our brave armed forces.

better still leave brize norton as it is and turn it in to a prison .

Who, out of interest, are you blaming for this squalid state of affairs? Bleeding-heart do-gooders?

AA Grumpy, your social conscienceness is commendable and your indignation is righteous.

But for right now, let's go get a "Happy Meal" and sit oustside and shoot the breeze.

The real shame of our nation is allowing our troops to get involved in this unnecessary war. Tony Blair and those with him who stood up and lied to con parliament in to supporting the invasion should stand trial, or at the very least have the integrity to resign-although pigs flying is more likely.

Come to that the even bigger shame is those MP's who once it became clear what that we had been conned even if it was fairly obvious to anyone with half a brain at the time. at the time.-to quote robin cook from his resignation speech.

Ironically, it is only because Iraq's military forces are so weak that we can even contemplate its invasion. Some advocates of conflict claim that Saddam's forces are so weak, so demoralised and so badly equipped that the war will be over in a few days.

We cannot base our military strategy on the assumption that Saddam is weak and at the same time justify pre-emptive action on the claim that he is a threat.

Iraq probably has no weapons of mass destruction in the commonly understood sense of the term - namely a credible device capable of being delivered against a strategic city target.

It probably still has biological toxins and battlefield chemical munitions, but it has had them since the 1980s when US companies sold Saddam anthrax agents and the then British Government approved chemical and munitions factories.

Why is it now so urgent that we should take military action to disarm a military capacity that has been there for 20 years, and which we helped to create?

Why is it necessary to resort to war this week, while Saddam's ambition to complete his weapons programme is blocked by the presence of UN inspectors?

Had he lived I suspect Gordon Brown would no longer be leader of a political party that he and his pal tony have destroyed as a viable political force.

AA grumpy if you really care about british troops sign up to the stop the war coalition. Mind you I see the BNP want to nationalise everything again, maybe they should change the name to national socialist party and pick up the tattered banner of workers rights from where labour have dropped it

If you've never seen a terrier bring down a giraffe on open grassland it's worth taking your binoculars to the Mendip hills, they're at it all the time up there. They've been known to panic wild wallabies over the edge of the gorge, it's a known hazard for motorists driving along the road at the bottom of the cliff.

We, unlike most countries, enjoyed a peace dividend in the 1990s after Iraq 1 by cutting our armed forces down to size. Not far enough, but downward.

Too true - had he lived Robin Cook would have been PM long before now - if not for John Smith having pre-deceased him.

AAG - do you truly believe everything the the Sun prints or does it just fit in with your agenda?
