At ThePheasant's suggestion & invitation, I'm writing a brief hello & introduction. I happened upon Forum Garden while doing research on breaking out of dysfunctional situations and trying to attract emotionally healthy people. The interchange between people here was very warm & engaging, and this seemed the perfect place to find nice people!

I've answered pretty much all the questions they ask of us in our member profiles, so I won't repeat any of that here. I'm truly looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Does breaking out of dysfunctional situations not involve leaving forums rather than joining them? I've long been of the opinion that using forums is a distinctive symptom of a troubled existence, it's interesting to see someone express the reverse.

I'm not talking about dysfunctionality here in Forum Garden - I'm talking in my non-cyber space life. People who engage in persistently self-destructive/self-defeating behaviors and then are surprised at the results - or those who seem perfectly content to be in a constant state of no-win frenzy.

Most of the people here have been rather kind and supportive. I'm somewhat surprised by your response, to be quite honest.

Of course we're mostly rather kind and supportive. Most people are. The dysfunctionality stems, I think, from people regarding their online existence as something distinct from real life. The more difficult things get day to day offline the more online becomes an escape, as though real life stops for the duration or can't intrude here. It's an attitude in which what happens online is considered unreal merely because it can be kept disconnected from the remainder of existence. It's not unreal, of course. It's even possible to tie the two areas together though the idea terrifies many people.

I'll make up an aphorism for you to reflect another aspect of it - those who can, live. Those who can't discover more and more repetitive behavior to entrap themselves in, for which a computer or heroin or playstation or xbox is the ultimate fix.

Thank you much! I live in the Tempe area - will be moving back to Phoenix soon.

I'm finding the vast majority of folks here in Forum Garden very friendly - nice place here. I hope to chat with you again as well.

Hey everyone. New here from Mississippi, USA. Have been looking for a place to meet new friends and chat with people. I am originally from Mass. But left the snow for SUNSHINE....I am a happy girl. lol

Hi QSDucks - thanks for the warm greeting. Sometimes I feel way out there, so I'm thrilled when I find I have something in common with another!:)

Are you reading anything interesting at this point?

This weekend's busy so far - Easter baskets for my coworkers, cupcakes for our monthly birthday party at work, cornbeef & cabbage for St Patty's Day, and still keep up with my housework! And OH YES...Since that newspaper article about Apple I-Pods coming right out of the factory *potentially* virus-enhanced, I had the joy of updating my virus scanware, running it, and hoping like mad I don't have one of the i-pods that shipped with a "currently undetectable" virus! Life gets interesting, doesn't it? .

All my best - enjoy spring while it lasts. I don't know which state you live in, but here in the desert, it gets HOT after May. And when the temperature's above 85, I have to turn on the a/c to accommodate my kitties while I'm out and about!

Thank you very much - for the most part, I *am* enjoying the garden. Of course, every garden has a few snakes & spiders that you need to learn to step around, but nothing major.

Hi Debbie - I'm originally from Massachusetts, too. The weather isn't what did me in, the 1990s economy in that state forced me to venture elsewhere. When everyone said Phoenix had a booming economy, I thought that referred to a "knowledge worker/professional" economy - Now I know they meant "Circle K on every street corner" booming economy! I did (at last) get a well-paying professional job with a company that treats its employees like gold, but it was a long journey from temping & call centers to where I am now.

Kathy Ellen - How wonderful to meet you - I'm enjoying my time here - and thank you - yes- I believe I WILL have some of the chardonnay! Meeting you so close to St Patrick's Day is an extra treat. This year is a little strange - St Patty's and Easter coming so close together, I'm combining McDonalds Shamrock Shakes with Easter candy, and my Easter Sunday Dinner is going to be Corned Beef & Cabbage! This week sure is a festive & colorful one!

Good for you. Phoenix had been a consideration for me. But people said was even hotter then here and this is hot enough for me. :yh_sweat Opened my own business and doing well. Good luck to you Furry....
