A few weeks ago Lucy accidentally drowned Josh's laptop in sprite. I took it back to the shop for it to be fixed. Today I picked it up, and very pompously said I would like to start it up and check it before I leave the shop. There was a long line behind me and 3 young geeks at the desk. To my horror when it started up I find that Josh's (nearly 13 years) desktop is a picture of a naked women. I quickly slammed the lid down, and said well it appears to be working okay. Stuck the thing under my arm and rapidly left.

I feel he must pay. What should his punishment be?

Make him earn enough money to buy a Playboy to hide under his mattress.

omg pheasy how embarrassing for you but i must admit I did have a bit of a giggle, sorry.

Do you have the computer where you can see him on it, like they say dont let children have the computer in their bedroom.

I would just have a talk to him. If you want to punish him ban him off the computer for awhile. Good luck:)

Reminds me of the time I checked daughter's homework file on the 'puter and found a file entitled 'sex', she'd found a few risque photos and put some comments beside. After I'd corrected the spelling from penius I explained that typing sex into search engines wasn't a good idea!





Punishment - constant reminding and ritual humiliation works well I find...

I helped raise three boys. These things need to be worked out, so to speak..

Download a naked MAN and have it as a background see how he feels about that. Have Dad give him the talk about such things, and check the laptop daily to see if he has the naked women back.

Oh Pheasy, I have enjoyed this thread, but have to share that I have been dealing with my oldest and his addiction to porn for about 3 years now. The worst happened recently, where my computer didn't have anti-virus protection on it and it basically crashed with over 400 files of illegal porn on it. Thankfully, I still worked at the computer company and they fixed me up for free....the timing was perfect in that case.

Everyone tells me that I should be thankful that he's not looking at naked men and that its natural for boys to look at naked women, but this porn is disgusting to me, not to mention my younger boys being disgusted by the pop-ups that have appeared before them....:-5

There is a program you can buy called netnanny and another key stroking program that tells you everywhere they've been online.

I know that this thread has been lighthearted and I've enjoyed the humor, don't mean to be a gloomy gus...I would love to offer some sound advice to you, other than locking him in a closet until he is 35......I have none!:o

It might also help define what's pornographic and what isn't. My theory is that pornography is in the eye of the beholder, not in the intention of the producer - if some sad Herbert gets excited watching the local lady newscaster every day at 6pm then the broadcast of the lady newscaster is definitively pornographic. And if people dislike the seamy aspects of the existing porn industry it's a simple matter for enthusiastic amateurs to swamp it out of existence, surely.

I guess Aussies mostly get less uptight about these pretty normal growing up phases. It's natural for children to be curious about sex and to wish to explore a bit. Why repress this, and drive it into dark, furtive corners?. I'm all for encouraging kids to bring these things out into the open, where parents can ensure that there is a healthy perspective. Sexuality is only dirty if you make it dirty.

In my day, I had to make do with Playboy and Penthouse. Getting up the nerve to walk into the store and buy it was always an ordeal.

I would venture to guess that "mothers" sudden awareness and inquiries would hinder the excitement and curiousity of viewing these "beauties in the buff."

He does seem like a normal 13 year old boy. However, you can control and/or monitor his actions on the net.

A bit of friendly advise--Put the computer in the livingroom or family room. Some room that is not isolated. He is still a child.

Joking aside here. My real thoughts/feelings on this are - I really don't mind if he wants to look at naked bodies - he is nearly a teenager. I do mind that I displayed it to about 8 other people in the shop (he could of warned me), and I do mind that at any point his 7 year sister could have seen it.

I don't have a problem with his curiosity. I have put parental controls on this laptop, only because I don't think he is ready for some of the more graphic pictures/vids that are on the internet. Like people having sex or people doing 'unusual' things to themselves.

People over here in the US have very different views about this compared to people in the UK. I remember a few years back my US friend was horrified by my attitude to this whole thing (I feel another thread coming on).

The parental controls are essential. If you get a chance in the next few months to show the laptop to someone who knows computers professionally then get a second opinion on whether it's tied down and secured thoroughly. No computers outside a communal living area is also essential for the next three or four years. The family that clicks together sticks together.

And I truly can't imagine any way in which he could have warned you! It'd be a monster of a 12 year old who could manage that.
