I call fake. It just isn't right to make an American soldier look so cruel. That was just wrong to post.

Didn't watch it. What's the point of posting it?

Yes indeed.

Last reason, only reason.

Are you suggesting that they are not genuine soldiers?

Are you suggesting that they're being forced to do this?

Are you suggesting that it is acceptable behaviour?

If the answer to all three is no then bringing it into the public's view is justified and tells us a lot about the people involved.

You cannot judge a group of people by the actions of one or two people. I'm sure alot of folks here who have family members who are Marines do not like them being referred to as the scrapings at the bottom of the barrel.

Also, with so many stories out there of soldiers having dogs they've taken in in Iraq being shipped home, I think there's more humane soldiers than you would like to believe.

First theres no conclusive proof its real.

But lets go on the assumption it is, so what? Do you think he cares one second about a puppy when hes got his ass on the line in battle? Puppy tossing, although grossly cruel in the real world, its like spitting on the sidewalk for him.

He dosnt know if he'll live passed sunday dinner.

Its a matter of perspective.

Ya know, there's another thread here somewhere about a guy cutting off the head of a fifteen month old child in front of its mother because they were arguing...

Quite a bit of life's horror appears to be caused by the unique perspectives of one person or another..

I don't accept that as an excuse. Sorry

As I first posted, I didn't watch the video. I'm not suggesting anything and didn't think I was particularly vague about what I wanted to say.

You called bullsh!t without knowing what was being discussed?

You certainly appeared to suggest that the video should not have been given airtime.

I gave three criteria that would reasonably justify it being given that airtime - by saying "what's the point of posting it" and calling bullsh!t on the reply you are certainly suggesting that, at the very least, those three justifications do not apply.

I call bullshit without looking at it too. What's the first sentence of the OP?:-2

What was the point of posting this into Current Events ... especially if you believe going in that it is fake? Wouldn't Conspiracy Theories have been a more appropriate place for it?:-2

The OP has nothing to do with puppy empathy; it has nothing to do with truth. The real reason Scrat brought this tripe into the Garden at all was:Scrat wrote: And my last reason is frankly the fact that I never have liked Marines.I believe this is the one and only reason he took the trouble to copy it. That belief is based on hundreds, if not thousands, of times he's done so in the past. He hates the Marines and hates America, and a case can be made that he hates Americana. Anything he can find to push his agenda forward, he uses, truth or not.

Motivation, in this instance, is immaterial. The question is, was there any justification for posting it and does it raise any issues that need addressing.

You appear to suggest not in both cases, I would disagree.

Surviving in a war zone, defending your country and fellow soldiers is one thing. But unnecessary cruelty for pleasure is something else. :(

Scrat's motivation is absolutely material! It's the only real thing in the OP. Scrat himself believes the video to be fake, so any valid questions it might raise would be along the lines of what software did he use, etc. To try to drag the Marine reputation through the mud based on a known lie is simply evil. Are you evil, Bryn?

When is a lie ever justified, Bryn?

It's more than a little worrying - it's saying that it's OK to turn our soldiers into monsters because they might be killed tomorrow!

Not only is that so wrong in itself but it begs the question whether it's OK for them to be monsters when they come home afterwards?

Its very scary to think that some people find it acceptable to train monsters who will no longer be safe in society :(
