Have you ever gone fishing

With fresh bait, new line

And good company alongside

Life feeling fine?

I used to love to fish

Not catching but trolling

My father rowing slowly

The clouds above rolling

And all of nature cooing

With pleasure at being

My watch left at home

Releasing and freeing.

The world just stopped spinning

The water unbroken

My father and I communed

No words spoken.

Here, many years later

I think back and cherish

How much he taught me

In times that won't perish.

Silence sometimes

Can say so much more

Make happy from sad

And rich from the poor.

Beautiful. Plain and simple.

A superb combination of ordinary words to give extraordinary and penetrating meaning. The beauty of poetry as an art is clearly exhibited in this piece.
