Port Wentworth /Savannah, Georgia is aound 60 miles from where I live. There was an explosion and fire at the Dixie Crystal/ Imperial Sugar Refinery. 9 casualties and 17 were badly burned.........all employees. The plant looks like a war zone and is obviously closed for awhile. They are saying this may be an industrial accident involving the flammatory nature of sugar dust. This happened 2-14-08 at 7:15 pm.

The local community has rallied around the families in many ways. Wreaths, memorials, blood drives, financial and spiritual support abound.

This was indeed a tragedy.......but it is always good to see how generous people can be.

I live kind of in the middle of those 3 places.

They had a memorial service Sunday for the 14 casualities. A couple of employees died from burns at the Augusta Burn Center.
