What gives a person or a news source credibility? Do you trust easily? When you hear something, do you research further, or just take it for face value and not worry about it anymore...that is until its brought up again....

Im not a good judge of character at all, easily get hurt, get sucked in, fall for their charm, lies or whatever. I believe what people tell me at face value, If I read something I dont look for a negative, I dont look to disbelieve. A good instance the other week here over a thread that was shown to be a scam. I believed it and im sure ill get suckered some point in my life again.

Yeah ok, maybe Im not savvy and maybe im gullible but I wouldnt change me cos im happy in my skin.:):-6

As Ted would say Shalom :-6

I give everyone full credibility and then let them prove different. The credibility is either strengthened or eroded.

I probable trust a little too easily, but am streetwise enough to have a good idea when I am being conned.

(I feel like I am applying for something).

with humans I've always gone with my instincts/gut feeling about them and with information I will always check it out myself, partly to see what the real story is and to learn more about it as well. :-6

I've been gullible in the past and believed everything told to me, and was burned. Now I'm more wary. As to the news and such, if I find something to outrageous or something I'll go looking for more information.

History and the importance of their reputation.

Without knowing either there is no credibility and everything has to be checked.

If a topic is that important to you, you will do the research yourself.

I stopped reading newspapers for a long time because I decided to carefully check the wording in all the articles for subjective language and discovered that there was only one truly factual article in the entire Toronto paper. It was about one and a half paragraphs long. Guy on a bike got hit by a car at a specific intersection.

I think larger newspapers tend to have more credibility but we are in an age where media conspiracy theories abound and it's quite frightening. If we can't trust the media, we live in a world of disinformation.

As far as individuals go, I rarely believe anything just because someone told me. After a history of knowing someone and having their information verified then I start to take more just on their word.

Credibility

Main Entry: credibility

Part of Speech: noun

Definition: believeableness

Synonyms: believability, chance, integrity, likelihood, plausibility, possibility, probability, prospect, reliability, satisfactoriness, solidity, solidness, soundness, tenability, trustworthiness, validity

Antonyms: implausibility, incredibility, incredibleness, questionability

Notes: something is credible to the extent that it is worthy of belief, so that credibility is worthiness of belief; credence is an acknowledgment of such worthiness

There are a few people I know who come under this meaning.

Then there are others who I know have changed & are heading that way.:-6

I always research further - ESPECIALLY when it comes to politicians, land developers or other corporations! These types of entities are infamous for self-serving reports to the media! Sadly, I don't have to dig too deep before I find the truth none of them wants to see the light of day. Leadership, integrity & accountability are in amazingly short supply nowadays - and the further up the social ladder someone is, the less likely that person is (generally speaking) to exhibit ANY of those qualities.
