I am not sure whether a similar thread has been put up before, if so I apologise.

Some people join so they can talk to people from around the world, just friendly chit chat. Some join to enjoy a good debate with like-minded members. Some join just to have a bit of cheerful fun. Some join just to cause arguments and upsets - fortunately the latter are very much in the minority, and they are soon spotted by the vigilant moderators. Some join because they are lonely. Some join because they are house-bound and it gives them a sense of 'getting out and about' , and to a lot of people Forum Garden has become a 'lifeline'. So let us look after it !

I joined because I enjoy a good chin wag, and sometimes join in with a debate that interests me. It makes a very enjoyable hobby where you can make, and I certainly have made, some brilliant friends. Why did you join Forum Garden?

Well I joined because Carol told me about it and said I would really like it. Well I decided to have a peeky boo and I love it. Made some very special friends including yourself Gill, love reading the other threads and when I have time playing some games. Life can be stressful at times and I have found coming to FG and chatting with my friends less stressful.:-6

I am sorry Gill!!

I just feel like I've been here so long that everyone knows my stories, but I need to realize that isn't the case....

I was unemployed for a few weeks and I discovered what "forums" were on a website called "reunion.com" and I was facinated by the concept of people talking to each other on different subjects, however there was this one guy that was a real jerk....so I decided to see what else is out there, I googled "forums" and poof ....the garden came up....I've been here ever since.

I really didn't know what to expect, I certainly didn't expect to find some of the most wonderful friends I've ever had in my life! I mean that....I know some people think I'm crazy for saying that...but I absolutely love my online friends and I'm very thankful for them.:-4

Thanks Gill for posting this thread...:-6

Thanks for that Wendy, I must confess I was feeling a little down about the reactions. Kay was the only one who answered in the manner I had hoped for, until your post. Perhaps I am too sensitive, and perhaps a lot of people are used to me being a bit daft. But I do have my serious moments -------------------sometimes :)

That was a very interesting post Wendy, thanks again. ;) :D :-4

I joined the "Forum Garden" because of my wonderful and lovely real life friend "Aussie Pam." She told me how much she liked this site, and I knew that I would join her here to keep in touch because Aussie Pam is my touchstone....she keeps me grounded.....she is my faithful friend.

My, that was a mighty long time back and not many's alive still that can rightly tell the tale. As I recall, this country was all open range for a while after the first migrants arrived here. There was the usual brushfire from the Cree that didn't amount to a hill of beans and things were fine, the greenest grass you ever saw. Once the rail-head passed the end of the valley and connected us to the Chicago trade, money came in like clockwork. All before my time, you understand, but it must have been a pleasant sight.

Anywho, there was grumbling after a while that the county was run from the one big ranch. Plenty of homesteaders would have liked to run their own beasts but it was out of the question and those that tried either lost their branded cattle before the round-ups or just plain got outright shot in full daylight. And that, I reckon, is about where I drifted into town.

It was a set-up, of course. I'd got a telegram from my brother's eldest saying how things were. She'd married a sodbuster up by the high pass, he'd taken a slug to the shoulder that spring trying to protect his own. If I had the time could I stay over and keep things running for a bit. By the end of that year the main ranch riders knew who I was, they'd lost a couple of the more high-spirited hands who'd come calling thinking I was easy meat, there was a stand off.

It couldn't last, of course. When the showdown finally exploded over access to the river I'd got the smallholders feeling confident enough to step into the line and look the ranchmen in the eye. They lost their foreman, the rest backed down, the ranch finally accepted that the valley was going to stay open range after all and a couple of years later there's no sign left that things had been so one-sided back then.

I'm still here, I got me a spread of my own with fifteen hundred head, and the water rights were all formalized at a town meeting last fall. We still get the odd yahoo rides in thinking he and his buddles can shoot the place up and take over, I've not hung my guns up yet.

Soz Gill...Bends for a bum slap:sneaky::D

I was surfing the net one morning looking for ideas for my forum as I was doing a regular "debate of the day" and I was looking for inspiration. Google threw the Garden at me, I had a look and liked what I was reading...After a couple of months of popping in each day reading all the funny posts and great banter between the members I really had a good feel for the place, started to feel like I was really getting to know some members as they were so frank and honest in some of their posts...One day, a post made me laugh so much I wanted to reply to it and with that I joined......I am so glad I did as I have met some truly wonderful people...When I first joined here, I had loads of welcoming and incouraging pms off members here, and that to me spoke volumes...Alot of caring folk here, that for one reason or another choose the net as a lifeline to reach out and speak to people.........Their is nothing quite like it.......A friendship built upon words and compassion and eventually trust...

Thats why I joined the garden:-6:-6:-6

It was at random that we met,

A chance that not many get.

When I heard the "Uh Oh",

How was I to know!

That you would turn out to be my special friend,

Someone who could be there,

Until the end.

No matter how I feel or what I do,

I know, in my heart,

That I can count on you.

I've never seen you,

Heard you, or touched you.

Those kind of chances are very few.

To meet someone from far away,

Never knowing if they're here to stay,

Not knowing if what they say is true,

Of what they're doing and telling you.

So far away, but yet so near,

The "not knowing" is the fear.

Is it truth, or is it lies?

Will a heart grow, or will it die?

Either way, the bonds of Friendship's strings are tied.

One's needs are met,

Some with regret.

Some with hope,

Some with pain.

But still, the answer is plain.

If we hadn't met,

On that very day,

Things would be different

In every way.

The emptiness may be filled,

A life may start to rebuild.

A heart may be broken,

Or made to mend;

All because of that

"Random Friend".

You are quite insane, I think..... as am I. I love you for it. Its good to know that my kind of people are scattered all over the world.

I accidently found FG the first morning I sat at my brand new computer.

I joined because I didnt know what I was doing. Thats quite a while back now. One of the best " Mistakes" Ive ever made. I was immediately hooked, and I have never regretted a minute of my addiction.

I joined after Jim had found it, everyone seemed really friendly, Hammy, Pinky, Koan, Unc Kram, Acc, Mrs K and many more, Chesire Cat had just passed and BR had been in a serious accident, I was reading the posts and I realised that this forum really was full of 'all sorts' (not meant in a nasty way) but they all really thought a lot of each other and pulled together in times of need

I knew nothing about forms until my town's website had a forum section. I typed forum into google and this one came first on the list. I joined up immediately on a whim and am so glad I did.

I have made great friends, had some huge laughs and even travelled to a town I'd never been to before to meet some complete strangers (and had a ball!!!)

WHIPS AND TOPS

Once upon a time, back in the days of, let's say pre 'Health and Safety'. There was a nice little primary school nestling amongst some trees, beside a quiet little residential road. Along this road there were some rather elegant houses, all detached, wherein lived ordinary people who kept themselves to themselves with their 2.5 children and their dog, cat and rabbit for the children. Their children attended this nice little primary school, and they worked hard because their daddy and mummy did so much want them to do well and to pass the '11 plus' examination to get into the grammar school.

Other children who attended this little primary school came from an area of houses which were built straight onto the street, the houses shared outside toilets, but the children seemed happy and most of them enjoyed coming to school.

This little primary school had a very varied complement of children, from all backgrounds, who mixed together freely and mostly very happily. At playtime the children played different games, according to the seasons of the year. There would be the season for skipping, 'snobs' or 'jacks', conkers, whips and tops and so on. There was great competition between the participants. The children would gather together as teams. One of these teams was called the 'Whips' who were mostly children who were friends together from the 'backstreet' houses, and another was called the 'Tops' who were mostly the children from the 'detached' houses nearer the school, and each playtime they would earnestly compete.

By the end of the 'whip and top' season, although the Whips team did not do very well against the Tops team, they improved steadily until the Tops team were being beaten consistently and they finished the end of the season with their heads down in defeat.

The Whips were jubilant in their success for that season, but they were well aware that the Tops would return when the season began again. But the Whips would be well prepared to deal with the Tops when that time came around.

Wow I must have missed this thread, nice idea Gill! :-6

For me I had already begun a little bit talking online to the odd person through another very small site, and decided that I wanted to look for a larger forum that had all kinds of great people to meet and a variety of topics to talk on, rather than a forum about one specific thing. By chance I fell upon FG, had a quick look around, liked what I saw, and then decided to join up. Since then I haven't looked back really!! :guitarist
