i'm ok now thanks, i had a bit of cheese lodged at the back of my throat, only a small bit, but i couldnt cough, couldnt swallow it, was gasping for air.
Thats really frightening.
Hence my phobia of choking, it happens a lot however careful i am when swallowing, my eyes were watering.

In the end, sorry if this is gross, i have to put my finger down my throat and remove it.
Why doesnt it happen to other people when they put much more intotheir mouths than i do.???

happened to me 3 times, always at night in bed. First time I was pregnant and couldnt breathe, luckily for me hubby is asthmatic and the calmest person you want in that situation and he got me through it as I panicked big time. Second and third were whilst ill with bad cold and swollen glands.........Its horrid and I totally sympathise with peeps who suffer panic attacks. Im lucky my hubby was with me every time as I panic too much to deal with it myself.
Hope your ok hun.....drimk lots to soothe your throat and it helps for the next day as I found it was still sore the next day.

If it makes you feel any better, I choke on my own spit. Usually at work and I'll start coughing uncontrollably, red in the face, nose running, eyes tearing. I'd have to laugh if it wasn't me.
I trip on air too... that's always good for a laugh.

oh yes, i choke on my own saliva too.Thats frightening as well.
The worse was when i swallowed a bit of an extra strong peppermint and i dint think i would ever be able to take another breath.See i had even been eating it in small pieces - i would never put put a whole candy in my mouth and even doing that doesnt save me.

You know Lemon & Mint, sometimes there is a physical reason if you choke that often. It is something to tell the doctor about next time.
I choke alot, stress and all seem to make it happen more often. But then it was a symptom that went with something else, so when I told the doctor once he looked into it. (cuz' the other stuff) So I at least know why now.

hello chonsi i did ask the doctor about it a couple of years ago, it had got worse with stress, and he said there was something called globus hystericus which stops people swallowing when stressed. He gave me some muscle relaxants, which i wasnt sure if they worked, or i was less stressed, or i just didnt happen to choke, but the doctor wasnt too worried about it.

lemon_and_mint I have the very same problem. In my family they call me the chocker. I have had swallow test while eating different textures of food. Upper GI test you name it. My doctor came to the same conclusion as yours. I have learned to not eat certain foods that helps alot. Its a awful feeling for sure. :-3

if i eat for example rice or chicken, or real food as opposed to icecream, mashed potato, etc, i always have it swimming in sauce or gravy as that is much easier to swallow.

lemon_and_mint smart I do the very same thing. Dry food like chips and crackers, health bars always seem to start me on a coughing spell that leads to chocking. Just can't win. :-5

this is why i am very worried about people taking part in eating contests, swallowing cinnoman challenges, or eating dry crackers in those school contests.
