Brushes with fame

Eighteen years ago I attended a CD launch at a local bar hosted by MuchMusic - the Canadian counterpart to MTV. It had a live national feed to the music network and the place was packed. During commercial breaks the VJ - named J. D. Roberts would play "lets Make a Deal" with theaudience.
While talking to a friend during one break J.D. Roberts offered to trade a copy of the CD being launched to the first person to bring him a birth control device. As soon as he said it, a blond twenty something female ran to the stage sceaming and waving a package of pills. At the same time my friend turned three shades of red and groaned, "Oh no... my girlfriend on national TV."
Fast forward fifteen years to watching John Roberts delivering the CBS evening news. I sat there watching wondering where I had seen his face before. When a commercial break came on for a new form of birth control pills I remembered that bar a decade and a half earlier. If it hadn't been for that commercial I never would have made the connection..
