do you mind if i dissect your question? ...i am prejudiced in this for obvious reasons. right to bear arms...a convicted felon? i am authorized to shoot a fleeing convicted felon. why do they need a gun??. to rob the convenience store? i had to become a cop to get a gun permit and carry concealed..should the bank-robber have one? i don't think so. ..secondly...if someone has it ( a right to vote) spits in the face of government or society by committing a felony and being convicted of same...they have forfeited the right to participate in my government. just my opinion.

by definition felonies are not "minor". ok it's a bow and arrow, not a gun.(tough to conceal)..but i have to support the law in your state. ...after reading your pm i hope your friend gets the pardon applied for.

I was unaware that criminals in the 'States could not vote.

I can't see why anyone can't wear a T-shirt or similar.

In the UK this person would not be able to get a firearms certificate, but would probably be able to get a shot gun certificate. Bows and so forth do not require licences - are they really subject to licencing in the 'states?

This won't help you evaluate the example that you put forward, it's just for discussion, really!

in the states convicted felons are disenfranchised, may not vote. there may be some exceptions in certain states. (what was that about t-shirt in reference to? just curious)

i hope he doesn't go ahead and buy it and risk his freedom again...it's not worth it!

What about simply using guns, bows, etc? Can one of your convicted criminals borrow, use on land belonging to someone, use "supervised", etc?

possession is 9 points of the law...the convicted felon cannot have control of a weapon. it's the same as someone in the drivers seat of a car drunk or without a license..they are deemed to be in control of vehicle and may be charged accordingly.

Pardon? Can you tell me, in a non-specific way, of course, how that works?

you can apply to the governor of the respective state where you were convicted , for a pardon. essentially expunging the record. it's not granted often. but in the case of a young person for example, who has remained clean for ten years after the conviction it is possible. just not likely especially with a law and order governor.

I must say, it really bothers me that you feel you have a better chance because your mom knows people. What about others who are just as deserving but don't know anyone on the board? I wish you luck with this, and hope he gets the pardon, it just really bugs me that you have to know people to get results.
