Midnight Snack

between giggles under the covers,
crawling from under covered warmth
onto hands and knees,
reaching out a hand
to find the cold wall
to guide them forward-
grabbing the implement
of desecration off the desk,
scattering last night’s homework
in a paper trail
they will pick up tomorrow,
if they live that long
flannelled assailants
slowly meandering between cat,
blocking their pathway
towards dim light
at end of hallway,
peering behind cabinets
to make sure their prey was there,
enlightened by the open door
of the ‘fridge,
nature’s aura haloing his figure as created,
while inspecting the snack time larder
of his desires
shoving the camera
back and forth
into each other’s hand,
between clinks of pop bottles
and pickle jars,
hot potato of photographic glee
ends in the youngest's grasp,
one quick inhale of bravery,
she stands in the obscurity of shadows,
and flashes one click,
as they duck and run,
between words unutterable
floating from the kitchen,
as light slams shut
the midnight snack
late night call,
ten years later,
another double dare
uttered by the oldest,
as the young ones chuckles
with artistic inspiration,
one more time,
only immortalized in paint,
between tinctured titters
and chromatic chuckles,
the picture hangs today
as her final masterpiece

The senior art show is tonight, and that picture was selected to be hung and judged by the art museum. We have laughed all week over this, it just has to win something! Childhood memories do come back to haunt you, in the strangest ways............LOL And her father does not know yet..............:wah:
