Correct

For anyone that didn't understand the answer it was

grandfather, father and son that were playing-which makes 2 fathers and 2 sons :)

I looked at the question and decided on 2 3 or 4 which shows how incomplete the question was. I don't think there are any other right answers though.

It reminds me of a rather more complete question which has a tough answer - where can you stand and walk a mile south, a mile east and a mile north and arrive back where you started? I'm still not sure I know the full answer to that one.

The north pole - whether the geographic or the magnetic depends on your method of measurement.

You'd take your definition of "pole" and stick to it. Okay, you found one, now keep thinking.

Chookie, that's the oddest avatar I've ever seen - is it really two hippos wallow-humping in the moonlight or do I just have a vivid imagination?

The easy way to know where you started is to put your sandwich down on a rock before you leave.

Take the Princess across, go back and collect the Knight, take him over then go back for the thief's body.

You did not say they all had to be alive.
