Whippet Festival Plans
An ambitious plan to hold a major international festival in Northumberland has been unveiled at a press conference this week. The Shilbottle Whippet Festival will be held in and around the village from the 23rd to the 29th of October this year. Thousands of people and whippets from all over the world are expected to attend. The chairman of the 2006 Texas Whippet Festival, Mr. Jackie Ping Pong, will officially open the festival. The festivities begin with a grand carnival parade of exotic floats carrying whippets in national dress and spectacular costumes. Festival events will include, obedience trials, whippet throwing, whippet and spoon and three legged whippet races, the worlds strongest whippet finals, the Miss Whippet World beauty contest, the Wooler Whippet-voice Choir, the Norwegian National Whippet Motorcycle Display Team, aerobatics from the death-defying Brown Arrows, a whippet arts and crafts fair and that “Houdini of whippets, Fido the Great. Speaking at the conference, the chairman of The Shilbottle Whippet Festival, Mr. Septimus Badger Q.C. said “Whey this is bloody great man. Last time Austin, Texas, this time Shilbottle, Bloody great man. Shilbottle is well known as the leading British centre of whippet culture but officials are hoping this festival will put the village on the international whippet map, alongside Madrid, Tokyo, Leningrad, and Austin, Texas. The festival program is yet to be finalized and ticket prices will be announced soon. A shuttle bus service is planed to run to and from local rail links and airports. Over 5,000 acres of local farmland has been allocated for car parking and a heliport is under construction at Green Hut corner.
