Skip this post if you are not interested in a super-geek-tech-announcement. :wah:
I'm pleased to announce that ForumGarden's new home was ordered today. The new server will be powered by Intel's Q6600 QUAD CORE cpu, we'll have 4X the RAM and we'll be back on Raid 1 with 3X more disk capacity.
I expect the move to take place in a couple to three weeks.
Just an fyi!

And better yet(!), the server will be fully managed, os hardened, network hardened, and monitored by a 24/7 staff.
Oh!...and it'll be on a fiber optic backbone.
I can hardly wait!

I suppose this new home is being built by illegal aliens.

Does the new home have wheels?

Can we pull it behind a truck?

Looks like by the QUAD that it is four wheel drive.

The RAM must be a Dodge Ram.

Good going Tombstone, and always remember I got your back buddy....

Does this mean I'm going to have to upgrade my Pentium 3 800MHz workstation just to be able to access this FTL supercruiser you're shifting the database into? I can imagine me reaching to thumb the Spacebar to follow a link and seeing the screen change just before I hit it at this rate.

So this means when I press the 'post reply' button or the next page button, it won't just sit there staring at me and taunting me until I leave?
Or is that the change you're making? Trying to make me leave, are you?

				Hi Everyone,
A little update. I've begun working on getting things prepped for the move. If you are thinking about starting a blog at forumgarden.net, you may want to wait until I move FG to its new digs and unveil new blogging software that will be integrated into the forum and your control panel.
More later!

	Dear Betty Boop,
Your reference to a hammer has brought back another sea going memory.
If you were a lowly junior engineer and usually treated like S... the ultimate horror when you were on watch below during the night was the appearance of a "SUPER"
The superintendent engineers were treated with awe and wonderment, how on earth were they clever enough to rise to such lofty heights?
An essential part of all the old steam ships was the pair of WEIR'S FEED PUMPS that kept the boilers filled with water automatically.
No water - a very big bang!
The junior was afraid of being asked any questions because three hours before he may have been bound on a train from Scotland to Kings Cross to join his FIRST SHIP and knew absolutely nothing about the engine-room when he was sent down to do a twelve hour night watch - 6 pm to 6 am. With no breaks.
A very common event was that the shuttle valve on the Weir's feed pumps stuck and sometimes were the devil to get going again - and the water level kept dropping in the boilers.
The final solution was usually - a much frowned upon - a hefty wallop on the end of the shuttle valve with either a hammer or a very heavy long spanner. This usually resulted in the end of the shuttle valve housing being slightly battered or burred over.
The dreaded "SUPER" appeared in the middle of the night dressed in the almost essential uniform of a dirty raincoat - long before Colombo's time ????
He nodded, they never spoke to mere juniors, and went his merry way walking slowly around the dead engine-room, apart from a donkey boiler and a steam dynamo running almost silently, examining everything with hawk like eyes which apparently missed nothing that was faulty or out of place.
The junior sat on a a small roughly made wooden stool awaiting his fate when a voice rang out from beneath his feet.
	"Junior!"
He scuttled noisily across the floor plates and down the companionway in his tackety boots (No safety boots in those days.)
He found the super standing in front of the pair of feed pumps one of which was working with its usual long, long slow whine to the top of its stroke. The shuttle vale would then crash across and the pump began its long slow creak down.
This sound could be heard throughout the ship day and night.
The super froze him with his beady, evil smile.
"Where do you keep the hammer?"
Innocently the poor junior shakily raised a hand and pointed to a cranny in the mass of girders holding up the floor plates above him. It was probably the only thing that the junior he had relieved from a twelve hour day-shift had shown him.
The super reached up and pulled down a long one ended spanner which also showed signs of battering.
	"New here?"
The shaking junior nodded in agreement.
"Well I had better go up and waken the chief and appraise him of the bad habits developing on this ship."
With that he turned and climbed the long, long steel ladders that led out of the engine-room.
He left a much relieved and relaxed first trip junior behind him dying to get the Donkey Man to make a cup of tea for him.
	God Bless
	randall
	:)

				Hi Everyone,
If all goes well, I'll be moving ForumGarden tomorrow morning. I'm aiming for the 10 a.m. PDT time slot.
During this time, FG will not be accessible. The move will take about an hour since the databases are so large now.
I'll post a notice on the top page tomorrow before I begin.
Until then!

Tombie's planning "neat little goodies" for us!! I thought he'd been awfully patient. This is where he gets back at the lot of us. I can see shiny new, innovative innovations like:
Threads which by their titles look so inviting you rush in, then find they are like the Hotel California - you can never leave
Threads which eat you if you're on the black list
Threads which turn you into Halloween pumpkins and then he plugs you into the power point
Arcade Games that are really mazes - no one ever returns
A new pmail facility - which films you as you compose, thereby recording your state of mind in case you are misunderstood
Sad threads will automatically generate chocolate handouts
Any thread involving singing, dancing, gnomes will take you direct to the compost file where there will be groaning and gnashing of teeth
Religious, philosophical and/or political threads will self destruct and great shall be the implosion thereof
After half an hour, a poster will be teleported to some beach/ ski slope (of their choice) for a breath of fresh air
All ForumGardeners will henceforth be reinvented in ecologically carbon footprint-free, recyclable mode
The Mona Lisa will be banned
Everyone is to send all their money to AussiePam immediately if not sooner - as a voluntary contribution towards her Champagne Campaign Fund.
