I just paid $4.19 for 2% a gallon. I think this is really outrageous.

Milk is almost $4.00 a gallon. It is $3.50 at the local warehouse grocers.
I am not sure but I think this is because corn has gone to gasoline additives and not to the cows .... so milk is higher. Is that a paradox? Lower gas prices.....higher milk? The only problem I have is that milk is transported by train or diesel power......not by gas powered trucks that use the ethanol (corn) additive.

Soon it's gonna be cheaper to buy your own cow.
:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl
And once everyone gets their own cow they can install a mini methane converter to run their electricity!!!!

If we all had our own cow and a mini methane converter........we could make butter and fat free at the same time.

I just checked my local shop:
Tesco Whole Milk 2.272ltr/4 PintsProduct info £1.15 (£0.51/litre)
2 for £2.00 SAVE 30p - valid from 10/07/2007 until 02/09/2007
Tesco Pasteurised Semi-Skimmed Milk 2.272 Ltr £1.15 (£0.51/litre)
2 for £2.00 SAVE 30p - valid from 10/07/2007 until 02/09/2007
Tesco Healthy Eating Skimmed Milk 2.272ltr/4 Pints £1.15 (£0.51/litre)
2 for £2.00 SAVE 30p - valid from 10/07/2007 until 02/09/2007
From the Fresh Milk shelf
The US gallon is 8 pints of 16 ounces each
The UK gallon is 8 pints of 20 ounces each and it's 4.544 litres
The UK pound is $2.02 today
So that's US $3.23 a US gallon.
"Whole Milk" here is about 3.7%, it's exactly the same price in that shop as the semi-skimmed 2% product and the skimmed 1% product at the moment.
As a related comment, I'd read
http://www.realmilk.com/what.html and consider what exactly you're buying. I'd not use milk at all if I lived in the US. The entire concept of food quality has collapsed there under capitalist pressure.
