You practice the piece slow at first, to learn the coordination between the hands. Then you bring it up to speed.

Flute. And my pride and joy is a Queensland redwood, open hole treasure, crafted lovingly by a master craftsman who lives in the Sydney Blue Mountains. It requires massaging with oil, gently warming, and ongoing tlc, but the timbre blows me away, it sings like an angel (and makes up for the player's shortcomings). I have other flutes too, but this one ...... ahhhhhhhhhhh :-4

That sounds like a beautiful instrument, Pam. I always wanted a Native American flute to learn how to play, maybe I will one day.

I love the sound of the Native American flute. Bought a kit once, well that was a silly idea, and assembled one. Of course it's not a real instrument, but it plays a bit. Grin. And has nice decorative feathers.

The breathier, richer timbre of my wooden flute contrasts with the clearer, more bell like tones of the silver one.

I'm just a fun player, haven't the time to put in to do a proper job with it. I flute a bit of Irish music, or just sit on a rock and let it all hang out. Used to play with a more serious little local orchestra but they were too good!!!!! Grin.

I mostly play the keys and guitar, but I dabble with a few other instruments on occasion. I did the professional recording and performing thing for awhile for a handful of bands and yup, the cover band thing, too... I fronted a Jeff Buckley cover band for awhile... and unlike the person that I impersonated, I never once was so drunk that I had to return everyone's money because I passed out on-stage before getting through the opening song. :wah:

Anyway, nowadays I only play and compose for myself... and of course, every year during the Holidays, when the family gets together to sing and play holiday tunes.

I played the flute in school. I have a violin, but need to take lessons. Teaching myself to play is not working out. :wah:

Seriously, Violin is not an easy instrument, I'm still working on the piano myself.

The spoons can be awesome. And in Irish music, also the bones. There's a section in the Chieftains' version of 'The Battle of Aughrim' - after the massacre, where you just hear the clicky rattle of bones - it gives me goosebumps.

I'm not familiar at all with bones, Pam, but I will check it out. I always like learning something new. :)
