what do you think of banning smoking in apartment/condo buildings?

I think it seems to make sense to have certain sections of apartment buildings non-smoking, if, as the article says, a resident who smokes within the privacy of their flat can adversely affect a non-smoking neighbour.

I can't say I totally understand how this can happen though, because my mother lives in a retirement flat and her neighbour is a heavy smoker and it doesn't affect my mother in any way at all.

I am getting sick to my back teeth of the constant whinging from these anti-smoking, PC, "let's shoot them all," brigade. :-5

Even though most here know I loathe smoking and support the public ban, I draw the line at a person's home and car. Whatever their bad habits are, they have a right to do them in their own personal space. The exception is if there are kids (and animals in my opinion) at home or in the car. Otherwise telling people what they can and can't do in their own dwelling and in their own vehicle is getting outrageous.

About the condos and apts; well the smoke *is* going to stink up everything in the room which is a losing point for the next tenant and lost rent for the landlord. I guess offer smoking condos and smoking apt's as well as smoke free? That I think would be up to the landlord. But to just say you can't smoke in your house is ridiculous.

I completely agree with that, Lillia. I too hate smelling like I smoke when I don't. I have no kids to worry about but anyone's kids breathing that junk is a concern.

I can understand city codes for condo builders and apartment landlords to design their ventilation so that smokers & non-smokers can live near each other unmolested. Landlords should also be able to have non-smoking buildings if they wish. They should probably be required to tell prospective tenants if they know the previous tenant or current neighbors smoke, so that the customer can make an informed decision.



However, if a person knowingly moves into a place filled with smoke & smokers, they shouldn't be allowed to force the world to change to suit their personal tastes.
