I havent ridden a scooter for years. Someone planted a seed and now Im feeling the bug again.
Im looking for a used bike.
Any "dont do's" would be appreciated.
	This is the ballpark....

	1980 Yamaha XS850. $1350
16,000 miles on the odometer. New dunlop tires. New battery. New seat. Recently redone carborators. Very reliable. Always starts. I've taken it on 8 hour trips and had no problems. Tank in great condition, no rust, good paint.

Dont do it. Forget it. You do not have the temperment for this toy. Only the very serious should attempt riding. Get a golf cart.

Do it if you can control it and feel in charge. It's bigger than I'd ride if I went back to it but that's just me, I grew up on a small light british frame. Don't forget to wear a helmet and maybe gloves if it's that sort of day. Aim for the Darth Vader look.
Here, this is the model I last had.

Good lord. I only ever rode single cylinder bikes. My ambition is to spend some years touring parts of the world on a Manx Norton, assuming I could ever kick one into ticking over.

Mine was way cooler than that. It had a racing slick. I rode like the wind! except that the wind was better at maneuvering around trees & stuff.

I gotta say I like the lines of the second one better, and my beloved loves the color. That longer chassis will give a smoother ride, won't it?

Clanking would make me nervous. To me, clanking means loose parts means excess friction means early wear-out.

	But I'm hardly expert.

				What a rush !
They gave me the keys and said good luck.
I almost pissed myself when I hit the throttle. I freaked out. I thought it would be like riding a bicycle, you never forget right ?
	Wrong !
Luckily there were residential streets nearby for me to practice on and get enough confidence to hit the highway. It was 70 miles home so there was no taking back streets. I spent a good hour weebling and wobbling and jamming the brakes on too hard at stop signs till I felt semi safe enough to ride home.
Actually once I hit the highway it was much better, no stopping and going.
I took it out for an hour or so after work today and things went much smoother.
I have wide open country roads all around me with little traffic so I could breathe a little easier and get fairly comfortable. Ill be taking it easy for awhile but this is too much fun !
