A Global tax on financial transactions and airline travel could raise $10bn each year to help fight Aids.
French President Jacques Chirac said at the start of this year's World Economic Forum in the Swiss mountain resort of Davos.
''I propose today moving forward through the creation, in an experimental way, of a levy to finance the fight against Aids.'' Mr Chirac told the annual gathering of corporate leaders and politicians in a speech delivered by video link-up. This would include a $1 levy on each airline ticket sold.
