I'm irked!
I had obtained a Mastercard through Tribute a while ago. I'm one of those people with bad credit so it was one of those credit cards where they know that and you get a chance to redeem yourself. I forget the actual term for that kind of card, maybe you know it.
Anyway they failed to send the actual card so I never had anything to activate. I made payments though and contacted them about sending my card but they didn't. They did however just cancel my account for non-activation! I wrote and explained the deal but they said they were "unable" to re-open my account. I have a $20.00 balance they're supposed to refund too.
I'm really p.issed off about this!! They suck.
So do you know of any bonafide Mastercards or Visas (Mastercard seems to be the sucker card/card for bad credit people while Visa is harder to get) for those with bad credit? Preferable non-secured but if I have to go that route, I will apply for a secured card if I must.
Anyone??

Well unfortunately you will be paying high interest. 22% kind of high. Cross Country might be the kind of card your thinking of.
It works but its essential you maintain discipline.
Buy one thing you need then pay it off. Then again. Be patient.
Also though you have to go back and clear up any bad credit ratings you might previously have had.
Thats essential as well.
5 yrs ago I was a total misfit in this dept but today Im clean as a whistle and have a good rating.
Be patient.

When I was getting my mortgage I paid a couple hundred to a firm that goes in and cleans up your credit rating. They tie up any loose ends you might have and give you direction as to how to get your score up. It was very helpful.

I've heard about those....so they're genuine? Are they called debt consolidation or what would I look under?

I love cash. Green, leafy, crisp bills. They smell lurvely and if you stuff enough of the smaller denominations into your wallet you feel rich and flush with success. Plastic doesn't compare. Gimme cash.

No....you have to have one to rent a car, to check into a motel (thanks to the freaking "terrorist act") and a few other things. I believe in emergencies too.

You could open a bank account where they give you a Visa debit card.
Works just like credit.

Yep, I have a couple of those JD; but when I went to check into a motel, they insisted on my leaving a credit card with them to prove I wasn't a terrorist and that I wasn't going to steal any lamps. Seriously. They had a sign that said "for the protection of our customers, we require a credit card to discourage terrorism." :wah:
I remember the old days when they wouldn't let you in without luggage!

They wouldn't accept the debit card? I'd report them to Visa.
Besides, $50 bucks says if you left your card with them you'd find later that you subscribed to many porn sites.
There's no reason for them to hold your card when they already have the number.

I paid all my cards off last year, when I refinanced. It was the best feeling in the world to have zippo balance due. I only charge one thing a month to keep them active, and pay it off everytime a bill is sent.

I'm not leaving my credit card or ID with any stranger. If some putzwallow wants to insist, make an even trade. :p
Even better, Call the credit card company on the spot and explain what the motel wants. Maybe they will give you advice or deactivate the card for the night.

I think she meant they take the # as a deposit. Not actually physically leaving the card behind. And shes right car rental guys dont accept debit cards in lieu of credit cards. They are different even though Visa or MC might be hosting the card.

If they don't accept a visa debit card do like JD said and report or threaten to report them. I haven't had a card in seven years and I have no problem flying, renting a car, or staying at a hotel.

That's just a simple misunderstanding on the part of the cashier who either didn't understand or didn't care... I run into them every now and then, too. :wah:
Red Glitter... you don't need to get one of those questionable credit cards if you're only wanting to rebuild your credit rating. You can qualify for one of the higher rated credit cards from Citi, Orchard Bank, Blue Sky and Capital One that have a low fixed APR (although, I wouldn't recommend anyone ever keep a balance from month to month on a credit card... nobody can afford those interest rates! ) and no annual fee. It may not have a very high available balance to begin with, but that will eventually increase if you keep it payed on time for six months or so. To be honest, I'd rather have it stay fairly low, personally... in fact, I refuse their offers of raising my limit up above six figures... no thank you!
Also, NEVER leave your credit card with anyone... cashiers in supermarkets are constantly stealing customers info and their money from unsuspecting customers who often never had a clue until after the perpetrators have been caught.

Thanks Guys, for all your help. I appreciate it. I really do. I'm not into credit cards that much but I have seen where they can be a lifesaver.(or a life ender for that matter)
Nomad, if you have time, I would love any info you could give me on that stuff you were talking about. Thank you.
