I'm sorry to hear this Darren! I know how scary it is when someone you love has to have surgery. But take heart because people get hip replacements all the time and do just fine. In fact, my good friend just had one done last week. I'm sure you're worried and your mom probably is too but I'm also sure she'll be just fine. :-4

Extremely common operation. Everything will be fine.

Instead of worrying use the time to turn the music up really loud and break into the liquor cabinet. ;)

You don't know me Darren but bless you for worrying about your mum. This op is one of the most common ones around and the surgeons can do them with their eyes shut.Your mum will be just fine. She will need quite a bit of help from you afterwards because it takes a few weeks before she will be able to bend and walk properly again.Hope you are a good cook and can do a bit of cleaning for her.

All the best.

Mia

Don't forget to get her flowers. Moms love getting flowers from their sons.

Don't worry, it'll be fine. Take good care of her and get yourself plenty of rest. :)

Hopefully it'll be soon, try not to worry (easy for me to say i know)

The Drs would'nt perform the op if it was'nt nessasary and there was any danger to your mum.

That be a man stuff is okay but also don't forget your friends here are ready to listen to your concerns about this. It's scary and unnerving for everyone who goes through it, both patients and their loved ones, so don't feel like you need to clam up about it. :)

My wife's cousin had one recently under an epidural - sooner her than me but she coped OK.

Your Mum will need to follow orders and do all of the exercises the doctors give her - might hurt for a sort while but it's worth it to get full mobility in the joint.

Do not worry, it will be OK - just be there for Mum to re-assure her when she needs it.
