For some time I had been having a lot of trouble with my teeth, waking up at three in the morning, and wound up eating paracetamol sandwiches. During one stage when the pain eased, I nearly passed out when my wife announced she'd made an appointment for me to see the dentist. I felt physically sick as he told me he didn't do gas - every other time, I'd have to be put out cold! Come the big day my mouth was deadened, but I couldn't believe just how straightforward it was. The dentist laughed when I told him, and touched his head. "It's all in the mind." He said. And do you know, he was dead right!:wah: Big babba or what? Here was me, who'd been quite seriously hurt in a car smash back in February, absolutely neurotic about having a couple of teeth pulled out. You'll generally find it's the big, hefty blokes who are the worst. Women just walk in and out without any worry. Do you find men are neurotic when it comes to going to the dentist?

When I was 16, my two front teeth were knocked down my throat, in a horrible car accident, I lost many more teeth over the next 20 years because of the trauma. The roof of my mouth was fractured, and their was other facial damage. I have had every oral procedure known to man. done to me over the course of my life. For some I was put to sleep, for others awake.
A simple extraction isnt too bad.... if the dentist knows what he is doing.
A few valium or a zanax definately help. The men in my life have always been unable to tolerate any dental procedure, without being put to sleep. I do, of course feel that we women are better at handling pain. Once youve experienced a head the size of a cantelope coming through an opening the size of a dime... you can pretty much handle the dentists chair pretty easily.

Geez I had to front capped teeth knocked out in an accident. The insurance refused to pay for it because they were capped teeth......so I've had a flipper for 3 years. In order to fix my teeth I need $10,000.00 dollars.
Has anyone had good dental insurance.

There is only one company in the states that pays 40%. Delta Dental. I am about ready to pay individual premium with them. I only have to wait 18 months to get my mouth fixed.

How awful. You must have been in a hell of a mess after it happened. I only fractured my ribs and picked up facial injuries, and possible double vision as a result, but I've never had any teeth knocked out. You must have been extremely brave to have gone through that trauma.

It's like the Irishman who had to have all his teeth out. "Christ," he said, "Never again!"

The worst part about my teeth situation was that I was 17. I had to go to school for a year ( 11th ) grade without a replacement. They wouldnt put anything in my mouth because of the fractured jaw. I actually went to a senior prom like that. Thus were the beginnings of me being considered brave, And my great sense of humor started to delelope. Fortunately my mouth is very small. I learned to speak in such a way that nothing showed. It also was the end of my smiling, as I was self concious about my mouth from that time forward. I also had to overcome a lisp.
Over the years, the situation led to TMJ problems... cracked roots would show up.... abcesses later on. My first mouth appliance was a partial. I wore it for years. In the early 80's my husband had incredible dental insurance with the coca cola company. I had all of my upper teeth capped. Porcelain teeth with platinum on the back. Back then the cost was about 9,000.00
Insurance paid about 7,000.00 It took the dentist 2 years to do the job. He stretched it out while he received payments. Thr root canals were a horror. I hated that.
