Find happiness within yourself, a job and man won't give you that. :-6
On a practical note, look what kind of work you'd like to do, if you need new skills pop down to your local college and think about enrolling on a p/t of f/t course. If you have the skills then look on the job centre plus website, or some agency's, send your CV to some company's.
You may meet a man on a course or take up some hobbies, you could meet someone with the same interests as you, I have a couple of friends that do the Internet dating and they seem to be having a good time.
	Good luck to you :guitarist

Only if you allow them to, do friends do that too? If it is a frequent thing then you need to start getting tough with some of them

If your serious - you won't need the man..
Figure out what avenue of employment you enjoy & excel in - there's nothing like enjoying your job, then the happiness will come and then you can be very particular on who you date etc..
Welcome to the garden - enjoy

Start with the job first so that your job change is not influenced by a new realationship. A new job that you like and enjoy will give you not only independence, but a new positive attitude that in turn will lead you to a more positve relationship. Your attitude is responsible for all you seek.

Suzy answered it best, in my hubris filled opinion. No, you don't need a man, but hell they are nice to have around on a cold day. I know I don't need a woman; I like to have em handy though. Got to take care of who and what you are first; no one of the opposite gender can make that happen, at least not to a satisfactory degree.
