i am about to watch larry king live, whose guest tonight is the estranged husband of the florida schoolteacher, debbie lafave, who had sexual relations with her 14 year old student... shades of mary kay letourneau... actually there have been several similar stories in the news recently. does anyone think that it is any less a crime when the adult is a female authority figure? some people seem to treat it with a wink, as though it's every young boy's fantasy. should female pedophiles be treated exactly the same as males with same charges?

How could it be "less" of a crime? Is the age of consent different for girls than it is for boys? Nope. And even if it IS every young boys fantasy, it's not up to the woman to fulfill it. Fantasies are fine, and normal, but for a grown person to take advantage of a young, impressionable person is wrong regardless of the sex of either of them. Pedophiles should be treated like pedophiles. Being a woman should not change that one bit.

I have known men that were molested by female babysitters. It is traumatizing and does have lasting effects. They were not as disturbed as the men who were molested by men that I have known but that is in part because of the homosexual aspects of the latter which add further trauma to the situation. It is a crime and it is a difficult one to deal with because the sympathy does not seem to exist as it does for women. Also, men are less likely to admit that it was a problem for them.

yes it does happen, debra lefave has a look about her. they really get off preying on the young males? it happens. debra will carry a reputation for the rest of her life as a molester? She was prescribed incorrect meds, she should have been on anti-sex meds. Sentence should be at least 10 years, so her hormones can regroup.

i raised three sons...if some female i trusted, such as a teacher, had molested any one of them, i may well have killed her. this is about lifelong damage to a young person. Paula...it's more than a reputation...if she is convicted in florida she will have to register as a sex offender the rest of her life. and will appear on the sex offender registry the rest of her life. i see her lawyer is going to try an insanity plea...oh gouge my eyeballs out with a rusty spoon.... she will never meet legal insanity criteria. here is what we do...the sex offender, once convicted, has to come to the jail. and give DNA samples. we cuff her up, take her to booking, do cheek swabs, and caution her on registering...failure to do so is a felony. so the rest of her life she is deemed a sexual predator. good. she will never be in a position of trust again.

The registry is lifelong in Florida? Yikes. I know here in Michigan, it's 25 years after sentence is served.

To answer the original question...I'm 100% with BabyRider on this one. This is a crime regardless of the gender of either perpetrator or victim.

.from a law-enforcement (and parental) perspective i will give you the short answer. we don't blame the "seductive" victim when the victim is a child. here is the plain unadulterated FACT...sex with a minor is illegal, immoral, and pedophilia. regardless of gender. period. using one's authority, as a teacher for example, is criminal and despicable. there is NO EXCUSE for sex with a child. and it does not matter what country is involved. IF IT'S A CHILD IT IS CRIMINAL.
