yes its friday night and its victor time again.
its only a matter of a month untill the smoking ban in public and workplaces comes in to effect.
nanny labour has been round with her starched apron and will bring us in to line with the irish republic where the ban has been in force for some time.
the latest one according to the daily telegraph is an on the spot £80 fine if you stub your fag out on the street.
great, brilliant if you are one of the non smokers but what if you are a smoker ?
if you wish to persue your habit you are now victimised and must partake of a drag outside.
will this fill up the court of human rights with claims against the government of vicimisation against smokers?.
the fringe loonies who nanny is bowing down to i.e (ash) will be jumping up and down with glee as the loonie left has got its way again with the government.
what about the other side of the coin empty town pubs and restaraunts as smokers stay away and what about the tax revenue the government are losing by encouraging people to stop smoking and hiking up the price of a packet of fags.
this is on top of what they are already losing on british fags being bought duty free.
make the most of what time you have left nanny as you,ll soon be made redundant.

I totally agree - you have as much right to smoke as non-smokers who have the right to cross the other side of the road when you congregate outside the company office while we're working the same as we have every right to go outside the building several times a day and eat a Mars bar (only Management don't see it that way), the same as we have every right to walk to the end of the railway platform even if it raining to avoid breathing in what you breath out in an attempt to avoid becoming another statistic like Roy Castle, who never smoked in his life.
Yes Vic, get all that lovely tar down into your lungs, for it's not the nicotine that gets you, and then make sure you claim as much as possible from the Health Service for cancer related respiratory problems. Talking a load of bo**ocks, am I? My late mother smoked: went with the big C - had it all over her body. But of course it's the individual's choice, same as it's my choice not to stand anywhere near a smoker even when he's not smoking for personal reasons. They don't smell - they STINK!

Doesn't happen.
Ontario has had a smoking ban for three years now, and the pubs and restaurants are doing well. I'm off to my local shortly, and I know it will be packed.
As my friend wisely observed just before our smoking ban came into effect, the bar business won't suffer, because people will still be looking to get laid !
and what about the tax revenue the government are losing by encouraging people to stop smoking
Smokers cost the government far more in medical costs than they contribute in excise taxes on tobacco. The government also loses taxes from smokers too sick (or too dead) to work.

I think it's great, the day can not come quick enough for me, being an exsmoker I am one of the worlds worse for moaning about the smell and the health problems associated with smoking.
I think if people helped out for an afternoon in a hospice or on a cancer ward, they might well change their mind before putting another death stick to their lips.

Oh I have been looking forward to the smoking ban for AGES!!! It will be such a welcome relief to be able to go to so many places that are smoke free and not have to inhail the smoke and increase the chances of dying at an earlier age.

I always laugh when irate smokers p.iss and moan about their rights trumping those of "the loony fringe" as they like to call us nonsmokers. Finally restaurants here are smoke free. It's bliss!! I went to Iguana's recently and got to sit through a whole dinner and smell my food instead of some divothead's obnoxious smoke! Maybe we should just make smokers wear fishbowls over their heads so they can revel in all that damn smoke.

That is very unlikely to happen. It hasn't so far anywhere I'm aware of.

Of course, you realise that paying good money in a restaurant and expecting to taste and enjoy your food puts you into the "looney fringe".
You should just part with all that cash to revel in the smokers' effluent, you selfish healthy person !
After all, smokers make up 22% of the population (well, in my neck of the woods, anyway). Shouldn't the other 78% just shut up and put up with it ????
