Just got home from work. Retail, everyone was trying to get their stuff before the snow hit. They didn't make it. Drove the last 11 miles on back roads that the plows had not touched yet. Got home and the fire was out. No point to this thread. I know I've got it good. but some days the little stuff just builds up and you need to unload with a little meaningless rant. Feel free to join in. you read mine, I'll read yours.

Went to the shopping mall at 11am. It was raining again today. I believe its them Yanks sending all those spaceships out yonder in space that's causing all this Irish rain. It just keeps pouring down over Ireland. Its being raining here since last August 2004 non stop. I got to thinking that maybe there could be a pot of gold in all of this rain. Export it, bottle it and send it to the Middle East. Hmmm I wonder If Iran needs pure Irish rain water. :guitarist

Yes, I'm off tomorrow, and being a PA resident I'll be in watching the Steelers and the Eagles. And feeding the woodstove. The older I get the less I like winter.
Sorry, I just realized I really am witchy with a b today. I guess it's just been that kind of day. Enjoy your tomorrow.

For some-one who needs to rant, your lips are sealed shut? Are you private messaging or are you too tired to rant? :wah:

ScoupeSlave...that's a hard place to be in. I remember when I was very young, with some work experience but no college at all...I had to get a job, and was getting the same responses that you are now. Too much or too little.
I was calling every job ad that looked reasonable in the Chicago Tribune. After two straight days of rejections, I was pretty depressed.
I called another ad, and I pretty much said that I had little experience, no college, etc...and the man paused for the longest time. Then he said, "So why should I hire you?"
I whined a bit about how hard it had been calling all these places...but he cut me off. He said, "If you don't believe in you, then I won't either. Work isn't easy. Looking for work isn't easy. Better learn that now." Then he hung up on me.
Argh!!! But, I am grateful to him. He taught me a valuable lesson...and after I quit sobbing and generally feeling sorry for myself, I kept calling - and eventually got a job. It was a low-paying mindless job, but it kept a roof over my head.
I'm sharing this just to show you I do understand how you must be feeling about now. I seriously doubt you are as whiney as I was.
Have you considered college? Even on student loans, it is the single most important investment you can make in yourself. A two-year degree will help, but a 4-year degree will double your income within 5 years of earning it.
For myself, I doubled my income when I received my 2-year degree. I'll have my Bachelors in 22 months.
Today, my annual income is just a few grand over how much I will owe in student loans for financing my entire education.
This means that by not increasing my living expenses, I should be able to pay them all off with 3-4 years, and at the same time my income will increase dramatically (along with my ability to earn higher positions).
I'm rambling on about this because some people are afraid to finance that much money. But at a locked-in 3% which doesn't accrue interest until after you graduate, it's completely worthwhile.

One of life's mysteries, who do people go shopping when it is busy?
Know how you feel, after two years unemployment apart from labouring jobs and doing things like picking brocolli I got a job as a management trainee in a superstore. After the first couple of weeks 70 hours plus the only thing that made me stick it was, firstly having been unemployed i didn't fancy the alternative, and hopefully itvwould lead on to better things.
My record was three weeks of 100 hours plus in the first store in the UK to take over £million in a week. We were all so excited we could have slept for a week to celebrate. It's a harder job than most people realise.
Winter used to get me start at 7 in the dark finish at 9 in the dark, no windows the only daylight was going out to the warehouse. I ended up being photosensitive.

In Areas where there's SNOW, Did ya ever notice that those "*&%$*^" SNOW Plow Trucks seems to always just come right after you think they are finished.
I just waited over two houres after my neighbors finished cleaning the snow off their Driveways, then I started doing mine. (We got about 16 inches, with drifts upto 3 feet high) An hour and a half later I just finished my Driveway, and sure enough along comes the SNOW Plow around again and "re-plows the SNOW into" the first 6 to 7 feet long by 3 feet high back into my driveway!!! :-5

While we're at it why do people who are intimidated by driving in snow go out in their cars? Mind you it's years since we have had real snow here.
ok, i have something to rant about... i live in satan's hell hole (tucson arizona) there is nothing to do here unless you are 21. you can't even get a decent burger here after 9, because everything shuts down early. i moved here from atlanta so i am used to things being open and all that stuff.
but what also sucks so bad about this place is that there are NO DECENT JOBS!!!!! just because i don't have a degree yet i have to work stupid retail jobs and crap just to keep my head above the water.
my fiance and i are trying to just keep our head above the water and we are sinking slowly. we are both very bright individuals but this place just sucks so bad....... the companies here hire the biggest loosers to do jobs that they are nowhere near qualified to do... and then when i hand them my resume they tell me that i am overqualifed for the job....... grrrrrrr!!!!
well that was my rant!Dont get upset.. Ive been there twice. Left New York to go to Mt Solon VA. 8 years ago.... only jobs were in poultry plants. Brunswick Georgia? If I didnt own my business.. I would be out on the street with a cup.
Try to think of something unique to do.. A service to offer... Youll make money. TE]

Good for you, sticking it out. Some days I firmly believe it's more about testing our endurance than getting an education. Ack!
Have you tried the college resources? Can they help place you somewhere part-time, hopefully in your field? Or how about cottage work? Or, as weeder wisely suggested, using whatever unique talents you have to create a business of your own?

Can you believe that this happened all in one day...to me? I was shopping in Target the other day and was in quite a hurry because I was having quests over and wasn't anywhere as prepared as I should be. So, I grab the things I need, and rush to the "shortest line". So, I wait in line as the lady in front proceeds to check out. As her order is finishing, I lay my things on the belt. The lady pays and walks off. Just as I got to where I was facing the cashier, this lady storms back and hollers, you didn't take off my coupon!" The cashier apologized and directed her to customer service where they would be "more than happy to assist". the lady refuses and demands that the cashier give her her money! the cashier (poor girl) explained that in order to do that, she would have to go to customer service. The lady jumps back in front of me and continued to belittle this girl saying things like "you have such a nasty attitude!!" Then she said the words..." I wanna see your manager" The girl calmly paged her manager (who took 10 minutes to get there). Now keep in mind that the cashier has yet to check me out and i'm just standing there like .."ok" So the manager gets there and pretty much tells the lady the same thing; that it would have to be handled at customer service. The lady got REALLLLLLY upset with the manager and said, "Fine, I don't want any of this, give me back my blanking money on everything!!And she dumps her stuff ALL OVER MY things and is just going on and on about how Target is a thief! And how Target always finds a way to get her money. I was laughing by the way. By this time, the line is a mile long because there were only 4 cashiers to begin with. The cashier is so upset that she runs off crying! The lady is taking down names and threatening to call corporate or whatever and still demanding a refund on everything. The manager gathers her things and again explains that she would have to do so at the customer service. She said she's not going a blanking where and that she wants her blanking money back right this blanking minute or else she would blow this blanking place up" I thought "ok time to go" The manager told her that if she didn't lose the language she would be escorted out the store. This is the nasty part, she SPIT on the belt (and my things) and said I blanking dare you to blanking touch me" the manager says "ok" and tells her she needs to leave the store. She refuses of course so, several other managers come up and literally carry her out the store (without her things or a refund). She's cussing and threatening to call her lawyer. We're all still standing in line like :-3 . As i'm sorting my things from her things on the belt, the manager comes up to us waiting inline and apologizes for any inconvenience and directed me to a shorter line. I gather my things and go to Reg 6. The girl is real nice and sweet . Just as she was halfwaythru my order, she leaves and runs in the opposite direction. I'm thinking "ok, this is not cool" I wait for a few minutes and look around for the cashier and a CSM comes to me and politely explains that the cashier checking me out is pregnant and is very sick. She also told me that she probably wouldn't be coming back because she messed up her clothes. I say, "ok cool, can u please finish checking me out?" She tells me that she can. Finally, I'm getting out of here (I thought). I grab my bags and head out. I get in the car and I'm going home, baby! Woo Hoo :driving: . As I'm getting my groceries out and going up and down the stairs, I see that I don't have as many bags as I think. So, I check my car and everything and just as I'm about to call the store and see if I left them, I hear a bag rustling. I go to the guestroom where Chauncey (a dog I'm dogsitting) is staying. He has taken it upon himself to eat the chips, lick the dip, open the fish, eat the hotdogs, and sit on the bread. Good to say that I'm a calm person and thought this was kinda cute. I rushed back to the store (NOT TARGET) and replaced my things. Get home to a houseful of guests, no food prepared, no nothing! Glad that they could understand! So,how was your day...hmmmm?

SS, you have gotten some very good advice above, just adding my two cents worth. You are just starting your working career, Mine is ending at the end of this month. (Retiring) Anyway from what I have seen over the many years, is the more College degrees you get, usually leads to the more higher paying positions you get! It will be a struggle now, but you will be happy you did when you're older, and living the good life!!!
Shibee,
Thats seriously not just any experience..... thats a pee your pants laughing story... one for the books. You will probably think twice about going to
Target again!!!! :wah:[/QUOTE
That was an experience I will never forget! I just finished telling my friend about it. The thing about it is that this whole thing started over a 25 cent off coupon! ! A whole freaking quarter! If I could've, I would have reached in my pocket and give the lady a quarter!!! What is the world coming to?!?!?!?
P.S. For now, Target is not the place to shop...
