Lady Cop threatened me with Police brutality to come here!



(We used to be at another site together that was becoming unpleasant at times)

Boredom for me too. I was REALLY sick of chat rooms. On the rare occasion that you found someone with 4 brain cells to rub together, it was impossible to have a conversation. I had stumbled on another forum, and the people there were incredibly rude, but I enjoyed the concept. So I went to "askjeeves" and entered "discussion forums" and got sent here. And like Tmbsgrl, never looked back!

I was participating in another site with mostly seniors who demonstrated all the signs of aging, memory loss, stubborness, irascibility, inflexibility, limited computer skills. I, on the other hand, am the exception.

I have an excellent memory, I am flexible, great computer skills, kind, good looking, intelligent, well read, and most of all I AM HUMBLE.

oh sure...i came here to get away from her and that obnoxious cat and she found me! she came here to torment me further. police brutality my butt...what is it called when Canadians torture American cops?? i can't even throw her in the clink! :-5

Topmbstone. I was looking at a UK based site and he popped up cross referencing to a topic on this site, the postings were a bit more interesting and thought out so I stayed.

I was a member on an Indian forum. It got bad, only filthy abuses, insulting each other, their faith and their country. I started looking for other forums. I came across FG and I now I am here. A nice forum to be on with so many nice people and lot of knowledge and information.

Got banned from another forum for defending others so went looking for a forum that was large enough that I could join and would allow me to have my own opinions. This place looked great and I have no regrets joining.

Mine was an attempt to escape... I was feeling that everywhere I went the man went too... Only told him the name of FG yesterday, before that I was refusing to.

I always thought that these discussion forums are independent. If a member is banned then where is the independence?

that is exactly my thoughts to and time after time people were getting banned and I would raise a bit of an issue over it and complain. They didn't seem particularly fond of those who did not conform to their rather unusual clique, and soon they grew unhappy with me always whinging about this because I generally took on the side of the newbies in defence of their stand and presto I got the ban.

Are these discussion forums not subject to some rules and regulations?

I was posting on a forum that became so pc that words like dick, and idiot were automatically zapped. This was not a kiddie place, but the subject matter, and intellectual level were reduced to .. Mcdonalds. Wulf's need fresh meat :sneaky:

Absolutly however, people were getting banned because they didn't like one or the other of the "old group" and any kind of confrontation or difference that arised they would all gang up on this person until this person was so frustrated and cheezed off they would begin to show it, and then the mods would send a warning and the person was given a second chance, many took that chance but it did not redeem them it only mad the clique gang up on them until they snapped again and presto banned. I am not above rules and regulations by any means but I don't believe goading others to anger or yanking their chains until you make them angry then getting the whole place to join in on the mud slinging and getting them banned. Sorry tough to explain and I saw it happen way to often in there, and one day without any warning or second chance to me, they just cut me off. It was no great loss to me with the exception that after folks are banned that little clique likes to carry on about the bannie after and talk them down and poke fun at them. They don't play very nice nor were they fair to those they banned. Oh yes and might I add they had no trouble keeping on people who were either harshly rude, very disgusting, or extremely perverted. Now don't get me wrong this was a general conversational kind of site, but it had these odd undertones. Yes I am glad to be gone from it.

Swear filters should be through choice on adult forums, by adult forums, I mean those who have no under 18 year olds in them, but not adult sites.

It is possible to have swear filters enabled when people are not logged in but let the members have a chioce of turning them on or off when they are logged in.

The main problem is some people who begin their own forum sites just don't have a clue as to what is available or if they do how to put it in place... I go to a few sites where the forum has been hacked about so much it is just a pleasure to use, and there are many more options than there should be to the user.

With reference to all the banning stuff AGAIN :yh_tired (we really need a yawn smiley)

You get Administrators and moderators who have a chip on their shoulders, or those who become too involved with the members, and are unable to make fair or unbiased choices.

Then you get those who do make unbiased and fair choices.

Whatever, they won't win because you will always get someone who disagrees with the choice, and keeps harping on about how unfair it was.

So far FG hasn't done anything like we have heard of from other forums, in fact quite the opposite, and a warning is far better than letting things get out of hand and a banning, so get a grip and let it go. You seem to have missed what was said in every other thread about the subject.

Like others I came here from another forum although, heaven knows, not one that with any form of filters. Several different factors lead me to look for a gentler place to be.

Thank you for this one, so far it seems fantastic.

Well... I was riding in Further down the Golden Road of Enlightenment and stumbled thru the gate to the Garden... liked what I saw and pitched a tent to get front row seats for the next show...

Many forums are just one topic. I like how this one is multi topic. It gets boring to just discus one thing all the time.

Orginally I started to go to forums out of bordom at work. Now I'm addicted on my free time.
