What is this topic for?

I have wondered if the poets and authors who post here are wanting critiques, comments on style and/or content, or just to post their work.

If you like a poem that you wrote it seems a shame to keep it in the cupboard or a little binder that no one will ever see. The comments are rewarding and encouraging to write more. The critiques are helpful in analysing and refining the means of expression in order to convey the moment or thought more effectively.
Putting the poem on the site is also a form of publishing. I feel "official" now.
