Hi all, Newbie here.

I've just drifted in after being banned for the 4th time from an extreme right wing American Forum. Ok I admit, I did troll them but usually in response to some highly vitriolic anti English / British abuse. They hate our teeth, the Queen, FutBol, black pudding et al.

I'm asking here for views or experiences with conservative Americans, Their views and how you perceive Americans and America as viewed from this sceptred Isle.

ps: This post was intended for the UK and was posted here in error. It is not a Troll. Thanks for replies tho'

I find that if you treat anyone from another country with a modicum of courtesy and a little respect for the fact that they are different, and they love their country as much as you love yours, then they will be ok with you discussing anything, (there are always a few who just want to fight in any country), but if you condescend, patronize, bully, hector, act all superior or just annoy people for the sake of it, or because you have some sort of personal issue with their country, they don't respond well, and why should they?

I'm human before I'm American...

I think you've just had some experience with people whom are a little bit too defensive for their own good.

Unless of course you were goading them...

:yh_clap Once again...Well said Dr. G!!:)

Alot of us have been here, done that, and not gonna go through it again. If you want to argue, well I'm sure you will find it alright. But, not by me.

I love America!..It's my Home! I also respect other people from other countries and their beliefs. I have met some of the most kind, gentle, funny and just all around awesome people since I've joined this forum about 4 months ago. I care about them and would never talk bad about from where they live out of respect!

shucks, i thought it was British.

Still it's a fair point. I found most Liberal Americans and Canadians had more in common with Brits

I'm not sure what a "conservative American" is. It seems to me, though, that if

you go to any country you will find there an assortment of people - some OK -

some not. In the case of the USA, I have not met many - but the ones I have

met have been OK to at least some degree. How do I perceive the USA? I'm

sure I hold similar views to many others worldwide!

You're talking about having been to a place where they think Hannity and Colmes represent the only point of view worth having, who have wet dreams about Anne Coulter and think The O'Reilly Factor is the best source of news on television?

Because Americans aren't all like that.

Funny thing to consider....

If we had a "Brits- love em or hate em" thread that woule be uncouth.

If we had a "Mexicans- love em or hate em" thread that would be bad.

Same with "Blacks/Asians/Gays/Rightwingers/Leftists/ETC of your choice..."

That would be smeared as racist and bigoted.

But it's somehow okay to do this with Americans.

Now somebody tell me why that is?

Americans are not that different from anyone else and I'd dare say if you think so you don't know Americans very well. Stop going by what you see on your TV.

and here too

Glitter girl...... I think this kind of gerneralization of "Americans" is coming from folks that only know what they hear from the news. They don't take the time to understand others, they find it easiest to just make a judgement call on what the media fills their heads with.

I would say spend a month in an international forum like here and then ask this kind of question. I find it irksome too that people just dump out a question like that to rile up the good people from all over the globe.

Well I mean Ireland is exactly like it is on TV: first its 1847, we all live in thatched cottages on misty hill sides that are being machine gunned constantly from the air by British army helicopters, we are all drunk, from the moment we are born, and we all talk like leprechauns on acid, we are all, and I mean all in the IRA (or are at least ex-IRA), or we are a member of U2, or both. We have no potatoes at all at all, and the children run round the streets of our quaint mud-hut villages in muddy rags, chasing the donkeys (which all live in the lifts of tower blocks don't ya know, and there is one for every citizen). All the women have red hair, and work in the fields with no shoes, they pick potatoes (even though there are none) and also referee the constant boxing matches that us men have, and which go on for 8 hours over various locations and end in the pub (which is run by a jolly man, and his shrewish wife), we also are all priests and nuns, as well as being in U2 and being terrorists, which makes us complicated, oh and we all live in America as well, because we all immigrated there, so there is actually no one here, and this island does not really exist and is now being used as the set for the next series of "Lost". Thats TV Ireland. :wah:

 TV, is there anything it can't do?

I love everyone and I have respect for all cultures. Everyone has a head and a heart, it's what we do with it that makes us who we are. There are people from every culture that can be narrow minded, racists, bigots, etc.

I believe in Karma, treat others the way you would want to be treated.

And for the record, I'm American and I think I would love to be British. :)

Al---------I'm a Yank from California that is presently in New Zealand, so I get considerable feedback from Kiwi and Aussie friends and relatives as to their thoughts on Americans, and conservatives in particular.

First, it's a mistake to lump all Conservatives together. Social Conservative?

Fiscal Conservative? Religious Conservative? A mixture?

Example--------I have always considered my self to be a Conservative despite being an atheist, anti death penalty, woman's choice on abortion, limited gun control.

Much concern of non Americans seems to center around the so called Religious Right Wing Conservatives, which are a small, but vocal minority of the Conservative Cause. I look for that part of the conservative movement to loose their effctiveness as the more moderate part of the conservative movement gains control.
