I went to see the stage version of 'Lion King' back in October. One song that stood out for me was "The circle of life".

I'd love to see 'We will rock you' with all that great Queen music.

Of the old film musicals, I think one of my favourites is 'Seven brides for seven brothers'....bit old and dated but good fun.

I have always loved "West side Story" and "Cabaret"I hope to see these on stage some say. I would like to see Evita on stage too.

When I was a teen, I saw "Funny Girl" accidentally and loved it and the soundtrack.

:-3 I played Agnes Gooch in a community theater once:sneaky:

"Lion King" was the last I saw, I was amazed.

"The Producers"

I have also seen "Phantom of the opera" (With Micheal Crawford)

"Cats" "Beatlemania" (when it was "ON Broadway")

"42nd street"

I'm not a big musical fan, but :) I suppose I am somwhat one, lol

I adore the musicals too. My all-time favourite is Les Miserables which I saw for the first time on Broadway and have seen about 15 times since then.

A close second, which I also adore, is Phantom of the Opera.

It helps a lot if the acting is up to the standard of the songs. The production I most enjoyed was the 1990 revival of Showboat by Opera North and the Royal Shakespeare Company in the Palladium, nothing I can bring to mind came close to that for sheer drama.

I liked West Side Story. I find the choreographed fight scenes oddly amusing.

I'm mad about musicals, due to family circumstances don't get to see very many in the theatre mainly watch on the box or on dvd.

Have so many favourites but top 20 would be -

Easter Parade

Meet Me in St. Louis

Gypsy

Singing in the Rain (wonderful!)

Funny Girl (Streisand is ace)

Bugsy Malone

Calamity Jane

Love Me or Leave Me (love Doris Day)

Tommy

Guys and Dolls

Brigadoon

The Pirate (love Gene Kelly!)

High Society

Shall We Dance (Fred & Ginger on roller skates - bliss!)

White Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Sound of Music

Victor/Victoria

The King and I

7 Brides for 7 Brothers

Can't be a good musical and "standard" songs for magical entertainment:-4

In 1948 my dad was a young 21 year old Irishman who had gone to New York City with his cousin and best friend, Alfie Jennings, for a holiday. Whilst they were there they saw the musical, Easter Parade, being made. Before the final scene was filmed, Judy Garland walked down Fifth Avenue, leading the Easter Parade. She walked along arm-in-arm with two young Irishmen - one was my dad and the other was Alfie Jennings! It was the highlight of my dad's life! He absolutely adored Judy Garland and has often spoken of this precious moment in his life.

I have often tried to find a photograph on the internet of my dad with Judy Garland and Alfie Jennings, but can only find stills from the film. :(

If anyone knows where I could track a pic down I would dearly love to know.

My dad will be 80 years old this year and is not in good health.

I would dearly love to give him a photo of the three of them together - the highpoint of my dad's life.

As a final point of interest ~ Alfie Jennings stayed in New York and has lived there ever since. My dad considered staying, but couldn't. However, he did buy an entire set of Belleek china from a shop inside the Empire State Building. (And it was cheaper than if he had bought it in Ireland! How mad is that?) It's a first edition and worth quite a bit of money...and he still has it!
