That's probably the vaguest question I've seen here yet. Which is part of what makes it a good topic. Common how? Common in the way I look? Mentally? Smarter than most? Common in what I believe? How I live my life?

"Common person". It sounds like a species: "And here we have the 'common sparrow', seen throughout the U.S., unlike his cousin, the 'fuscia-breasted long-winged sparrow', seen only in New England on the second and fourth Sundays in April."

I am common to people I pass on the street every day. I am totally uniqe to the people who know me.

Why not? It has inspired at least 26 replies, so apparently there are people who thought it was a good idea.

Sorry to Paula and Olly...it's another example of the nuances lost in communicating on the web! :yh_peace

i like to think i'm uncommon. i think a great many people in one way or another like to believe they are uncommon. we're all pretty much the same in being bipedal, mostly hairless, opposably-thumbed, mammals. we all have beating hearts that carry red blood, we all breathe, eat, sleep, etc.

i tell myself i'm uncommon because i'm half-greek, left-handed, have a very high IQ (which means i excel at responding to someone else's idea of what intelligence might be), i have a big nose, a funny last name (see 'half greek' above!) can type about 80 words per minute, know a little japanese and latin, worked in the film industry briefly, have a credit on a laserdisc, am an expert at running UNIX internet servers, and for reasons i don't understand, most people who meet me like me right off the bat.

then, i'll think about someone like Burt Rutan who recently put the first man into outer space without government funding, and i realize i'm nobody at all!

It is common to be uncommon so what do I choose?

I am in a common predicament along with my fellow humans. Probably common predicament among the alien folk as well, I imagine: Trying to make sense of what is common and uncommon.

Of course - the class-structured society seems to becoming less defined in the UK, but more defined in the 'States. What about in Canada?

They're trying to impose the moneyed class structure but they don't want to tell anybody about it because, if they did, then they'd be trashed.
