I had read this, and I had also read that new studies suggest that the HIV gel after further testing shows that the gel not only does not provide significant protection from the HIV virus, but may actually heighten ones susceptibility to being infected...

I can't seem to find anything that elaborates further.

Here was the initial article talking about the gels potential.

"A chemical specially designed to thwart how the AIDS virus invades during sex offers scientists a new lead in the long quest for a vaginal gel that women could apply to protect themselves when men don't use a condom."

Hell's bells. How mechanical! Imagine... "Hang on a minute luv, have you got a

rubber johnny on? No? Excuse me while I open this anti-HIV pack and shove

some jelly up there, just watch TV and finish your fag, I'll be back in a minute!".

No thanks!

It seems that the best way of avoiding AIDS/HIV is very simple - do not be

sexually promiscuous.

Yes, but I think the emphasis was more so in the prevention of aids in countries with relatively high HIV infection rates.

Aha. Regions of Africa, perhaps? I would think that logistics, expense, and human

nature might unfortunately conspire to negate any possible benefits. Anything

that might help would be extremely useful, though. The situation is awful.

The Setshaba Research Centre is one of three sites in South Africa where a microbicide gel named Carraguard is being tested in phase 3 clinical trials, the last phase of drug testing on humans before approval for marketing.

More than 5,000 women are trying out the vaginal gel to determine if it really protects against HIV; most of them are from poor, neighboring areas.

But what if it fails! :-2

Lust is fine, it's the realisation of it with any Tom, Sally, Dick, Jane, Harry and

Myrtle that does the damage. 1:1 lust engaged upon with great gusto will

not lead to an epidemic of any disease.

Edit: Apart from bad backs and exhaustion, that is.....

Then comes much sadness (and, if I'm being hard-hearted, loss of profits).
