Four decades on, an alleged Ku Klux Klansman known as 'The Preacher' yesterday became the first person to be charged with murder in the "Mississippi Burning' killings that rocked 1960s America.

Edgar Ray Killen, who is now 79, a former sawmill owner and a baptist minister, appeared in court accused of leading a mob of white supremacists who chased down three young civil rights workers in the racually divided Southern state on June 21, 1964.

I read this too, at CBSNews. They are not going for the death penalty..and at his age, why would they?

I am very curious how this will play out in the South.

Personally, I think it's a good thing. There is no statute of limitations for murder, nor should there be. I wonder if he has spent his life looking over one shoulder, or if he was convinced he'd get away with it forever.

And the I.R.A. has been around for how long????????

Bertrand Russell:

Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd.

Lady Cop, you forgot cutting off his ear for a trophy.

Ugh! I think I just made myself sick with my own bitter joke.

I don't know if it's positive or negative that we know racism and terrorism isn't confined to one particular country, but more a dark piece of our humanity. :(
