The Last King of Scotland

Post by Lulu2 »

Forest Whittaker is absolutely mesmerizing in this film! Just as Helen Mirren seems to get inside Queen Elizabeth, he finds the essential charm and madness of Idi Amin and managed to literally terrify me in certain scenes.

It's about a young, idealistic doctor who goes to Uganda on a whim and finds himself seduced by the charm of the people, the music and the color. By pure chance, he becomes Amin's personal physician and begins to witness the subsequent events.

WARNING...there is almost horrific violence in a couple of scenes (not to mention a very "hot" sexual depiction.)

In the end, Africa remains as enigmatic, lovely, maddening and frightening as always...

It's a powerful performance and I'll be interested to chat with anyone else who's seen it.
My candle's burning at both ends, it will not last the night. But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--It gives a lovely light!--Edna St. Vincent Millay
