I can appreciate your feeling. I gues sit might depend on how close you are to the fireworks. I am rural and they shoot them off at the tribal casino across the river which is pretty much in my backyard I don't mind that except for the big "thud!" ones. My jerk neighbors however will shoot them off even though they're illegal on this side of the river and I hate that because you never know when someone's going to be an idiot. Or a drunk idiot with a match. And we have a lot of dry brush around here.

I got arrested for selling fireworks. They confiscated $13,000 worth of product. The works were illegal but there was a loophole in the law for farmers. Everyone I sold to was a farmer (they said so)

The case was dismissed and they returned the product.

The Symphony of Fire in Vancouver is something to be seen. I watched it from a friend's apartment right by the beach one year with the stereo blaring. You have to have the music to get the full effect.

I love fireworks, under controlled situations. New Year's Eve is always a good time for big firework displays!

If it's not something that happens like once a week, just around certain holidays, it wouldn't bother me. As long as they aren't shooting them off towards my house. The guy across the road does a wonderful 4th of July display. I get to sit back and enjoy.

I love the public displays but my neighbors went overboard last night and I have to work today. Funny how that noise can incorporate itself into your dreams.

My dog didn't like it either. A firecracker would go off and he would growl. POP GROWL POP POP POP POP GROOOOOWL POP GROWL

Heavens, I didn't either of them would findly go to sleep. :-5

I watched the firework displays 'world wide' on SKY news last night. The display in Sydney was impressive and so was the one on the tower in Taipei.

Londons display at the 'Eye' was really good and lasted 10 minutes....I would have been scared to have been in the crowd though. too many people.

'Home grown' displays are not my favourites....very loud and not always well supervised...scary for animals I must agree.

I love fireworks, especially when you are at a proper event, when the show is organised and looks beautiful. I do however hate people that set off fireworks at the most annoying of times, when the rest of us are trying to get a good night's sleep. I mean I don't want to be kept awake whilst people are throwing a firework party next door at 2am!!

When the firsworks were still blasting away in my neighborhood at 1:30 a.m., I just popped off 5 or 6 rounds from the SKS. Worked like a dream.

Can't hear out of my right ear now, but the idiot neighbors shut the hell up.

They made Trixie a bit nuts last night. And we just had the legal ones..from Downtown. but it was a very long , vry LOUD show.

Fourth of July is worse here, alot of folks setting them off days earlier..expecially if the Fourth is on a weekend.

I'm afraid that you are a Grumpy Old Git. However, I agree with you in that

fireworks intended for specific events should certainly not be let off in the

fortnight preceeding/following. What happens now is not very good.

A few days ago, I heard a story on CBC Radio about an animal shelter in southwestrn Ontario (I think it was Windsor).

The manager said it was a very busy time of year. I assumed it was due to the unwanted Christmas pets, but she said it was on account of all the lost animals that come into the shelter because of the intense panic caused by exploding New Year's Eve fireworks.

The story also noted that the noise causes severe pain for many animals, due to their acute hearing.
