I think you "just know" when it's true.
I definitely think there is such a thing but I don't believe it comes too often or for everyone. I had it one time and the rest were just romances. In fact, it was so true that today I still compare men to my former husband. He was the best in my eyes and he set the bar for all others.

Because we were in our early 20s and hadn't experienced enough of life and when we began to have differences -which were actually there all along but grew as we did- we didn't know how to work them out like we could have and we ended it instead of fixing it. He was very good to me and even though I could never remain friends with him afterward, I still love him and wish him the best to this day.

When you have true love (and I do:-4 ), you may have times when you are not as much in love, but you just fall back in love over and over. I have been with my true love for ten years. The first date we ever had, he asked me over to watch the Westminister Dog Show.

He knew I didn't have cable tv and knew how much I loved to watch the top dogs in the country go for dogdom's top prize. That was a good sign for me. Also, he was the first boyfriend who didn't decide to "see other people" when he learned I had fourteen dogs and eight cats and several other assorted pets. He was intrigued, actually. Over time, we have had highs and lows, but we always come back to the highs:-6

Great post, Rachel
It also goes back to my theory about expectations. I *don't* expect my marriage to be fabulous all the time. It's really good most of the time, though, and for that I am grateful. My "Pro" list heavily outweighs my "Con" list.
I say "I love you" to hubby every day, usually multiple times. I don't hear it back anywhere near as much as I say it. But . . . I get great enjoyment from feeling it and then expressing my feelings. So, I don't have to hear it back to get the good feelings from it :-4
It's a tough world out there. It's wonderful to appreciate what you already have :-6

Yes, what Cher said. We have had our ups and downs..and are still together. That must count for something, I would say.

Our first year of marriage was tough. If we weren't married, I doubt we would have stuck it out.
It's gotten better and better with age. We feel much more like a 'team' now, both of us on the same side. There's something to be said for creating a history together.
The important thing is *not* to get complacent. It's wonderful to be comfortable with each other, but the 'spark' still needs to be there -- the attraction, the connection that keeps you together. I try to create excitement on a regular basis, mostly because I can't live without it in my life. I need that 'rush'.
So . . . when you have that combination of comfort and excitement, you've got a good thing going :-6

I love my husband. I could have loved better when I was younger but I was too selfish and too stupid and too stubborn. My husband is truly my friend and lover now. It's hell when you are younger............so much bull headedness......at least I was very stubborn.....my way...my way...........
Now I think it's better to be something other than RIGHT.......I have to laugh at myself in my younger years even though the emotional toll was NOT funny.

I have spent the last 3 years of my life with the most wonderful woman in the world as far as I am concerned. Having spent 23 years of my life married to a woman who always thought of herself and what I could give her to make her happy.
Now, I am with a woman who only wants ME, not the things I can give her, not for the man she thinks she can mold me into, but for myself all my faults included.
I guess the best way that I can explain how you will really knwo if you are in love with someone is this.
Not someone you can live with, but someone you cant live without.
I wait every morning until the last possible minute to go to work, and leave as early as possible to get back.
I dont want to hang out with the boys at the bars. She is my best friend, my lover, and my soulmate.

I do believe wht cher says about up and downs. I just want to know one thing, what happens to the romance? There seems to be no more. We still get along great, but, i miss the romance.

I am in love with my husband and he with me (I think!).
For me it was an instant thing, met him and knew that we would be together. For him it was a bit slower (not much though) he was a widower and still grieving.
We have always had a strong friendship which at times has been stronger than our 'romantic' relationship. Neither of us are hearts and flowers, slushy people so to have a true companionship in all senses is what counts the most for us.

That's a great question, TSquared
Because I get bored easily, I try to keep things interesting, not just for 'us' but for me as well.
It's not easy and a lot of it has to do with your 'mind set'. Do you look at your partner like you respect the person he is? Does he challenge you and help keep you safe, warm and dry? Is he looking out for your best interests?
If you can get into the above mindset, pour yourself a drink and put on some skimpy black lace lingerie with a pair of killer heels and go to town!
It's all about *capturing* the moment when you feel it :-4

I'm in love! :-4
My wife is my soft place to fall. We treat each other with dignity, respect and honesty. I romance her all the time and she loves that I am spontaneous. Our love grew even stronger when the kids left home. It was like a honeymoon all over again which hasn't stopped! Being in love is grand! :-6

i met carolley on frc,we were in a forum similar to this but it was live chat,we recognised similarities in our background for instance,we were both from londons east end,she a pub singer me a "jack the lad"we must have been in the pubs at the same time, anyway we decided after much phoneing and texting and chatroom visits,to meet near her home town in essex.we thought we would be friends, but i said 3 things could happen,1=we be friends,2=we hate each other,3=we end up picking out curtains,we bought a caravan together as a love nest,we should be picking our curtains for our home very soon.we enjoy going to restraunts ,even back to the east end,we just shared our best xmas ever.and we are totaly devoted and look to the day we can be together permanantly.

We come from the same part of East London and when we met couldnt believe what we had in common. It was a few weeks after we met on site that we met in person. I must say hand on heart that I never expected it to turn out the way it did. I thought it would be a friends thing not turn into the love story it has become. I still have commitments and we both look forward to the day we can be together forever in every way. He is buying a house near me and although we both know the future is not going to be easy we also know that the love we have for each other will only go from strength to strength and that one day we will be as one. carolley i knew we were well tuned in to each other but its almost as if we copied the same text ,,,so giss a kiss!

You know you are in love when you kiss...
To lovers a kiss is a conversation between two souls that words can never express
