...........early Christmas gift for Bill. As most of you know we lost our appaloosa last Sept. Bill's been kinda thinking about getting another horse after the first of the year. But he sure wasn't looking for a 16 hand, 1200 lb, T-bred mare, sorrel with a white blaze down half her face and a white sock on the left hind.
But like I told him, sometimes what you want isn't what you need and what you get is just the ticket.
Seems a friend of mine was looking to decrease the size of her herd in her breeding barn and rather than send this mare off to be a brood mare she elected to find a good home for her. I think our house has a sign (neon, brignt and big) on the roof that says GOOD HOME FOR A HORSE.
Now mind you, I wasn't in the market for a mare either cause mares have never liked my gelding and would beat up on him. So the deal was....we will try her and if she don't work out Back She Goes.
My Bud is in LUV. When we put her in the stall next to him he suddenly became Studly. Never seen him do that in the 22 years I've had him. The next morning when we let them out together I was running around the barn trying to find the empty bottle of viagra. And the person who slipped it to him.
It was soooo funny to see my 25 year old gelding playing Macho Man. And the mare, who's name is Fancy Gal, thinks my old one-eyed black bay is the cat's meow.
She's settling in real well and has definitely impressed me in the short week she's been here. Bill has decided that perhaps this flashy 17 year old girl is gonna be just fine. She just got one more test to pass and that's the riding test. But from what we know of her background that should be no problem.
Guess you're never too old to have the RIGHT one come along....even if you're a horse.
