Ok. So I have posted in a couple of threads that I am getting a divorce. It seems that my husband is not happy in our marriage and wants to start his life over.
I won't lie and say that it doesn't hurt and I haven't been angry. I have let go of the anger part - he wasn't losing any sleep over whether or not I was angry, so why in the world should I?
So, life smacked me right in the face with a huge bucket of lemons.
Well - 2007 is all about the lemonaide!!
First off - this week will be spent personalizing my apartment. When I moved in, all decorating and furniture arrangement was done with the comfort of my spouse in mind. Especially my bedroom. By the end of this week, my bedroom will be painted a lovely shade of lilac (who would have guessed that!) and the furniture and such will be arranged so that I have a comfortable retreat.
The new year will find me looking for a new job or maybe starting my own business. I have been tossing around the idea of a pet services business for a while now and what better time to see where that will take me.
I will be starting a journal with an eye toward getting it published. Kind of an emotional journey through divorce.
I am looking for a new puppy. One with the potential to be shown in working venues. My mom trained the AKC top scoring pomeranian in obedience when I was a child and it is something that I have always wanted to do. I just prefer larger dogs.
If I can get some financial aide - there is a possibility that I may go back to school. I am thinking of either business management or vet tech. But who knows? I might find something else that peaks my interest.
I am sure that I will think of more. And I promise to keep everyone informed.

Sounds like you've got your head in the right place.
Redecorating is a great way to start. Our environment affects so much about our sense of self. You might have fun looking into some basic Feng Shui principles. It is a kind of environmental yoga. :-6

LILAC: "Should I dust off some movies?"
You betcha! AND...if you'll get out the paint brushes, we can make short work of that LILAC paint job in your new bedroom!
(This reminds me of a story you'll like...when my daughter was at the end of her marriage, she'd said she wanted to paint their front door a deep green shade and the soon-to-be ex-husband told her it was a "stupid" idea. As he was packing to leave, she went to Home Depot and when he pulled out of the driveway, she was painting the front door a deep green shade! :wah: )
GO FOR IT, Lilac Dragon!

Feng Shui can also be used to learn about ourselves by looking at the way we arrange our homes and then seeing what it represents. I've always found it accurate that way. Even down to where we tend to accumulate clutter.

Blue: Represents blessings and is a calming, peaceful color for meditation and contemplation. Good for the Knowledge area of your home.
Red: Symbolizes virtue and truth. Red wards off evil and its vibrancy is life-affirming. It is the color of life, luck, prosperity, power, glory, and happiness. Good for the Fame or Reputation area of your home.
Green: Hope, longevity, and vitality. It represents lush growth, vegetation, and the rebirth of springtime. Perfect for the Family/Health area of your home.
Purple: Similar function to red, can be used with red and gold to symbolize wealth. Associated with royalty and pageantry. Best for the Wealth area of your home.
Pink: Combination of red and white, good for the Relationships/Romance area of your home.
White: Spiritual and moral purity. Good for the Creativity/Children area of your home.
Gray: A color of connection. Good for the Helpful People/Travel area of your home.
Black: Seriousness and justice, deep waters, the darkness of winter. Not usually considered lucky, but when used in balance with other colors it can absorb negative chi. Black or dark blue are best for the Career area of your home.
Yellow: Authority or rank, associated with tolerance, acceptance, honesty, and trustworthiness. Good for the center of your home.
Gold: Wealth and prosperity. Also good for the center of your home.
Use green carefully. There needs to be more than one shade if it is a main colour.

Im just yanking your lilac chain. Different colors set different moods. I usually like a red wall somewhere. Its filled with energy. I have a small bathroom I painted a dark dusky burnt orange and its my favorite room in the house. :wah:

That you've got a lot of work ahead of you while you sort things out. No biggie. You've got your mind set to it.
You might want to get a clutter drawer and clean it out at least every two weeks.

Thanks, Koan. I will add it to my list of books to get.
Nomad - I thought about a red wall but I live in an apartment and need to be able to return the walls to the original nasty off white when I move out. The color that I have picked out is rather light, so it will be easy to cover when I need to.

You could hang a tapestry or fabric on a curtain rod over a wall area and then you can even take it with you when you go.

Tapestries are a nice way to add color depth and visual interest. Plus they have a warmth and uniqueness thats original. E Bay has a nice selection.

I was thinking of making a padded, fabric covered headboard for my bed and using the same fabric to recover my rocking chair. And maybe the dustruffle for the bed. The original plan was a solid purple fabric but now I am thinking maybe a solid green fabric. A light green - I still have some issues with dark green fabrics. (I was active duty Air Force and wore those awful OD green uniforms!)
I have a lovely iron planter that hangs on the wall that has a phyledendrom (or however you spell it) that spills out the front and has wound itself around the wire that hangs in here too.
I promise pictures when I am done!
Gotta go sand spackle!

I don't have any friends around here - more aquaintences. The one person that I thought I could trust, told my family about everything which was something that I hadn't planned on doing until after the holidays.
My best friend lives in Georgia. She can't be here to help me paint but she did offer to drive to Alabama to see about a puppy that is in a shelter. We scratched the idea when the shelter wouldn't tell her if the pup was still available. She told me if I found another one in her area to let her know. She is the best!
Spackle has been dealt with, just waiting on my mom who is supposed to be bringing primer and painting supplies.

No, don't lose your trust, LilacDragon. I still think you CAN trust most people. But you've been hurt. Reckon you're doing great though, by the sound. Keeping a journal is always good. And I love the redecorating. I'm a bit far to rush to your side all ready to paint, but I'll be there in spirit! And to help concoct awesome cocktails to consume while we're working. What's the feng shui of psychedelic walls?

I agree with the once bitten twice shy thingie. Grin. Hard to restore trust where it's been abused.
Going back to School sounds like a great plan too, if you can do it.
It's a cliche - but one I like. Today is the start of the rest of your life... Or as my good friend, Mr Dante put it - Here begins the new life.

Well, the painting party is going to have to wait until tomorrow.
I just got the primer. Mom said this morning that she had another errand to run and that she would bring it over but at 5:30 this evening she decided she didn't want to leave her house so I would need to come and get it and the rollers and such.
The rollers she gave me are 2 inch rollers!! The room is 10' by 11'! I'm thinking that it is going to take me allllllllllll night to paint with these rollers. So, I will be buying real rollers tomorrow.
So - the cyber painting party is tomorrow. I will be bringing a bottle of wine but I won't be drinking it - I will actually be painting1
Marie - I don't do cartoons. I saw Over the Hedge twice and that was plenty. But if anyone can think of a good movie that involves shirtless men with nice pecs - I'm all in!
As a good friend pointed out this afternoon - I AM a horn dog!

Go for it LD, so "one" RED wall can still be restored to white when need be, with 2 coats of white paint! What's the worst the can happen, a "third" coat!

That is what I don't get. The woman has painted and or papered every single room in her house! She said she used the 2" rollers for her whole bathroom but the biggest wall in her bathroom is that 8" wall with a door in it and around the toilet, the shower inlay and over the bathroom counter.
I can promise you - she used bigger rollers for her living room and bedrooms!
