I don't know if this the proper column for this problem but here goes. I have had two friends (female, hetro) for about ten years. We always got along great, shopping, lunch, listening to each others problems etc. just friends. Last year one of those friends started to draw away from us other two. At first I thought it was just me and was very hurt. After a talk on the phone with the other friend I found out she was also shunning the other friend too. She said she had left a birthday gift at her home when she wasn't there and never recieved as much as a notice that she had recieved it. So we two expelled friends kept up our friendship. I mean not a word, unreturned phone calls etc. I saw her last Christmas and have not seen or heard from her since. So I just decided to not let it bother me. Last week I recieved a phone call on my recorder from her, all cheerful and all, just like we had talked last week. She said she wanted to get together with the third friend and me after the holidays for lunch and see if we could refresh our friendship. I have mixed emotions about all this and do not know how I should feel. I have not talked to the third friend about it as #1 I don't want a big todo about it and also friend #3 runs a bed and breakfast and this is her really busy time of year. Anyone with some idea how I should feel about this ( the hurt has gone) and how i should handle it. :-3

Well, since you haven't spoke to this friend in quite sometime - maybe she was in a relationship - thats time consuming? Life in general keeps you busy and before you know it a year has gone by.?? I wouldn't take the distance personal.

If the friendship is important to you ( and it sounds as if is) than give your friend a chance to explain the distance, then decide if the communication will continue to be open. Friendships get distant from time to time.

You can't possibly guess what has happened in her life to make her distance herself from you. I would guess that it's either a relationship or something personal that made her do this.

one thing's for sure, she's seen the error of her ways, and has realised that your friendship is worth having. I'd suggest that you meet with her and find out what happened. Once you know the facts you can decide how to react at that point. Let her know that you've missed her and that friendship goes two ways. I'm sure there have been times over the past few months that you could have done with her friendship too. Let her know this.
